Divinity Roxx Releases Family-Friendly “World Wide Playdate” – No Treble
Divinity Roxx has returned with a new album the whole family can love. World Wide Playdate is her second album geared toward kids, following up on 2021’s Ready Set Go!
The new album has a 90’s hip-hop vibe, drawing inspiration from the music of Roxx’s formative years. The inspiration came from reflecting on her own childhood, too.
“I believe that there is power in play. I grew up when we played outside, used our imaginations, and came up with games that taught us how to resolve conflict, socialize with one another, and make new friends,” Roxx says. “We were active and always looking to play. When I think about it, I play music for a living, so I am always in some state of play. It helps keep me joyful and curious. I wanted to share that with children. Play keeps us curious and joyful. There is a lot of depression in young people these days, and I believe that if we played more as a society, starting young, we would be able to find more joy. That’s the inspiration behind this album.”
The album features a handful of guest artists, including Tarriona “Tank” Ball from Tank and the Bangaz, Mumu Fresh, and Nigerian-born Teemanay. She also called on fellow bassists Victor Wooten and Malcolm Jamal Warner for the track “Raise Me Up,” which features some extra tasty bass work.
World Wide Playdate is available now Bandcamp, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
