Much easier than changing these baskets would be if the amp has 5 band EQ
Just bought A EV12L
You have completely SOLD me on the notion that changing the speaker makse such an insignificant difference that I'm good with that I've got. The really best way to demonstrate any of these comparison vids is to put it in a live band scenario. COULD you tell any difference when you're blending with a bass and a drummer? Dream on.
I was listening to this via a Schitt Audio Magni Heretic, Modi DAC, and Beyer Dynamic dt770 headphones. I preferred the Jensen and the Vintage 30. I put a Jensen C8N in my Bugera V5 and it sounds great.
Your speaker swap videos are very interesting and well done.
I've experienced some swaps myself over the years.
"Eminence Texas Heat"
That "paper thin" as mentionned in this video, good clean, but fizzy drive channel.
The "Eminence Texas Heat" fixes all the fizziness and bright icepick ear bleeding character of some popular 80s&90s solidstate Fender amps and Peavey Bandit type of amps . They have huge bass response that a combo amp almost sounds like a 4 X 12 cab. They're also rated at 150 Watts RMS Some amps are not that bright, but when cranked, after a period of time can give you ear fatigue. Through my personal swaps and experience, the Eminence Texas Heat has the warmest, most pleasant tone.
They might not be the best bright clean sounding speakers, but for overdrive… They can smooth out some harsh solidstate amps and turned them into very smooth tube-like spongy responsive amps. Eventhough their power handling is a crazy 150 Watts, they're still very responsive at low volume.
Your speaker shoot outs are very representative of what they are.
Thanks for your deep dive into it.
Love the show great job guy's cheers from boston mass !!!
Dude, you don't have to explain what a speaker sensitivity is…or many other things…we know that…waste of time. Cheers!
South African dude looks like a cross between Bill Murray and Johnny Depp ????
Great video comparison
Came here to compare the creamback to the hempback. I think I’m trying a Jensen instead.
To me, the vintage 30 sounds like a much more refined Jensen ????…it sounded to me the closest to the Jensen, but better (best listened to over headphones)
I have the A-Type. It has a trailing fizz when pushed, which I do not like. I prefer the Jensen.
Deluxe Reverb pretty please!!!!
Jensen every time
Speakers are everything, and the most overlooked piece of gear.
I'm with Pete on this one. They sound different. That's about all you can say.
And the star of the show is… The Jensen!
Transducer are the most important link in the signal chain. (Transducers convert physical acoustic energy into electrical energy and vice versa). In pro audio terms, mics and speakers are the priority. In guitars, Pickups and speakers will make the most difference.
That loop, was cool in the beginning. Then it started to sound like hold music when you phone a music store.
The vintage 30 sounded best to me …
This video is even better than the first one with the katana ????
Blues JR's SUCK!
I'm amazed of how the Jensen sounds the worst compared to much of the Celestions. Specially with dirty sounds the Jensen sounds crap compared to any Celestion on the Video. Creamback is the ultimate winner for me. Maybe this Jensen is the Italian made one which people don't seem to like and say it's far from the original Chicago made Jensens
Wild how massive of a difference you get from speakers alone.
Whats wrong with my ears? I like Celestion A the most and Hempback the least.
I prefer the Jensen and the Creamback overall, but that Hempback sounds pretty great as well
From other comparison videos on speakers for the Blues Jr, it seemed to me that the Vintage 30 sounded less boxy than other speakers. however do to the way the sound was recoded in this video one cant tell if one speaker sounds less or more boxy in the Blues Jr cabinet. So there's this other consideration when choosing a speaker for this amp.
10:10. “Hemp back mounting.”
Hehehe.
Listening to this with some pretty high end headphones and here’s my 2 cents… playing at home and alone in the room I would prefer the creamback for its all around lows, mids and highs. In a band setting where you have different instruments providing highs and lows I think that I’d prefer the vintage 30. Overall I was really surprised at how much I liked the Jenson and the Hempback. Also, I think every one of the speakers sounded great in their own right so pick one and install it in your amp and you can’t go wrong.
Creambacks are the best to my ears. Across genres.
That Jensen is kicking ass
V30 is my favorite
Have you ever played through a pair of original JBL D120s….. I have since 1973 and there's nothing to compare it to …..the speakers make a big big difference….. I also use Tone Tubby speaker's and Celestians…..but nothing like the original JBL speaker
I think the right test would be….repeat this exactly but with the volume on 9. Then we could see if any of these are actually an improvement on where that amp seems to fall a bit short. Great video!! I loved the amp, but where the other speakers would show up is if you began to push them. Then you would know if it was the Jensen speaker or the Tubes that make it flubb out when it gets cooking.

What if i change big speaker on my spark go ?
Blues Jr's have always sounded like a cardboard box to me unless I ran another cab, but wtf do I no I know, Is I've only been playing since 1963.
This was probably meant as a Celestion ad, but all it did is just proove Jensen is better.
Thanks for the video!
The boil down is still you can get virtually any sound out of any speaker with A, a modified tonestack or B, a shelving EQ.
Then it becomes a matter of how much volume must they be reliable to push without distorting in the tail and head of the bandwidth curve. I have some ratty ass 12's that after break-in, go from you can't set the bass passed 3 to afterward, you can dime it. For myself as an electrical engineer, it really becomes a matter of magnet gauss, wattage rating, and the overall natural color of the speaker that no amount of EQ can change.
In terms of what I own, I have a very broad range of speakers of varying size and quality but get the same deeply scooped evil tone from all of them.
yes, they do
Of course the speakers matter, they're a fixed EQ that sit on top of EVERYTHING in your chain
I've been considering getting a Blues Jr.IV, but due to the variety of speaker options available, I'm having trouble deciding which version of the Fender Blues Jr. IV to purchase. Your video has helped (I think). For me, the Celestion Hempback would be my overall choice. The Jensen sounded a little too trebly and harsh in the hi-end.
I’ve been wanting to hear the Hempbacks since Glenn Fricker said some laudatory things about them on his channel. However, it might not be a good idea to smoke the cone as it may lead to the urge to replace Celestions with Kracos.
C12N
The C12N has loads of that DOH sound (200-300hz)we work so hard to EQ out in recording a guitar. Honestly, I’ve never been able to stand the Blues Junior, and now I’m seeing the real problem just might be the speaker Fender put in the damn thing.
After spending more time, I’ve concluded that the Blues Junior just sounds like crap, no matter the speaker. What do people see in that thing?
Excellent demonstration!
I swapped out a couple Celestions and Electro Voice and JBL’s in my Deluxe Reverb.
I prefer Celestion but can’t tell much difference between various Celestions. Re: greenback, Creamback, Vintage 30, etc.
Jensen sounds like theres a blanket over the amp
Speakers make all the difference, the single most important part of any amplifier.
I mean…. This…. is exactly what I was looking for
A variety of different leads, rhythms in clean and gain channels through a tube amp to purposefully separate lead to rhythm in your own self of melancholy.
Very challenging!
I compared three speakers in 20 watt Marshall amps. Conclusion
V – type medium bright. Classic 80 lead tight in high gain lead. Then the
Vintage-30 my all around pick in rhythm, clean, gain and lead. They are all great sounding speakers. ????
