Not the greatest, but had the biggest impact on the rock guitar world, and nobody has come close to creating an impact like it. Nobody. Loads playing faster and more technical but nothing new.
I hate saying best ever, there are too many, but I think Edward is most definitely on the Mt Rushmore of guitarists. For reals. ????????
Rock guitarist yeah definitely among the best IMO, but if he's trying to play something like classical guitar I know many guys that would eat him alive. Or if he was to try the blues I'm pretty sure Stevie Ray Vaughan would eat him up, but Eddie's also the best at what he does with all that tapping and squealing and harmonics among other things

People all over the world imitates Eddie Van Halen because it’s easy. Hardly anybody can imitate Hendrix because it’s virtually impossible to play exactly the way Hendrix played ! Anybody can play like Eddie Van Halen ! It’s very simple easy guitar playing trust me . I’ve been playing that crap since 1984 . I’m still struggling with Jimi Hendrix songs . Plus Eddie Van Halen is a liar . Anyone who is over 60 years old, like me wanted to play guitar because of Jimi Hendrix . That’s a fact absolutely ????. Eddie Van Halen he built his guitar out of three different ones he has vacuum tubes with his initials on them he has like five patents on guitar hardware Edward without a doubt Eddie was an innovator in every way he was better than anybody without a doubt well I don't understand is you can dislike him or don't think he's your favorite but he is the best you can say somebody is the best and have a different guitarist as your favorite Eddie was the best ever even though you might have a different one you like better but nobody was better than Eddie people need people need to learn how to take their opinions out of it and look at simple facts being someone's favorite and being the best what's an example of Axl Rose I didn't like him as a person and he was a good frontman and Axl Rose was an asshole like David Lee Roth was I think Axl was a better singer than David Lee Roth but equal an asshole part he could sing it wasn't my favorite anyway but I know how good someone is even though they're not my favorite he was a good front man in the early days of guns and roses you can like somebody in the midst of the best of something people need to take their opinions on who's favorite that they might think is and realize facts are Eddie was the best hands fucking down sorry about this talk to text so may not be the best written paragraph

I love Eddie’s playing.. but he set off a whole new genre of music that’s horrible to my ears. Nobody wants to hear someone playing 100000 mph and soloing 10000mph for an entire song. It’s just unpleasant to my ears. & I love hard rock and even metal. Eddie was smooth with it. A lot of these players he is forked just make stupid sounds with the guitars. Polyphia for example is horrible. Idk how anyone likes that crap.
