In this Electric Eye guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of this classic from Judas Priest note-for-note.
The tuning is standard tuning.
Guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing bring an absolute onslaught of killer guitar riffs and an insane guitar solo with this one!
The opening riff is an extremely fast one that uses strict downstrokes to get that punchy sound out of the notes. I know many guitarists online use alternate picking for this riff when covering it, but if you want it to sound authentic, use all downstrokes! It is well worth the extra effort.
There aren’t many spots in “Electric Eye” where you can get a breather with the rhythm guitar parts. They all present some sort of a challenge.
But of course, the real beast here is Glenn Tipton’s killer guitar solo. Starting out with a chromatic lick that launches into a couple of HUGE two whole-step bends, Tipton from the very beginning lets you know you are going to be taken on quite a ride.
From there he goes from a pentatonic lick that cross the entire scale form in the blink on an eye, to a very very cool lick that is a combination of a legato based blues scale lick and a diminished lick. It is by far my favorite part of the solo.
He then goes from stock blues licks to fast alternate picking and of course rapid tapping just to make sure he has all the bases covered. Truly a solo that isn’t for the faint of heart.
So have fun with this one guys, I certainly did! #electriceyeguitarlesson #judaspriest #guitarcovers

My God, couldn't you hear your guitar was out of tune? At least 2 or 3 strings were, anyway.
Quite the solo
Very well played !
Danke!
This wrif kicks ass! Gotta learn it soon
The bridge section with the double stops right after the solo…is that 2 minutes to midnight I can hear? ????????????????
Tome su merecido like!!!!!!!!
Amazing video lesson of my favorite Judas Priest song! I've got a few suggestions for more Priest songs if you'd be up for it: Leather Rebel, Nightcrawler, Freewheel Burning, and The Sentinel. Oh also, Some Heads Are Gonna Roll. Any of those would be cool.
love it thanks
Standard tuning?
Faulkner plays it with upstrokes.
Brother…why you dont make sing deceiver guitar cover from Judast priest
Do you palm mute some of the notes in the intro?
thx for the lessons, but next time have tabs on screen!
damn good lesson and guitar tone. which guitar were you using in this video? looks like sterling jp model. Which one exactly?
The live video shows what he does, however most guitarists are not as clean live as they are in a studio. You seem to be in all the correct positions though. Nice job!
Hey hey Carl, Richie Faulkner has a video on YouTube showing how he plays some of their top songs, check it out!
I don't have the speed or reflexes (age 48 beginner, started at 46), to do the notes in between with the intro riff. Like going back to the E after every note hit.
But you can get away with just one hit and then play the melody part, hitting each bass note change just once, it's so fast, you don't even notice.

I place Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing as the BEST Metal duo of all time. Why? Because each one of them, in their own right is an exceptional composer and player. I would challenge anyone to find any other guitarists to match them. If you disagree – perhaps you've never really paid attention. Glenn and K. K.'s ability to finesse the most "simple" riffs into the realm of magic – and their leads . . . Judas Priest guitar solos approach the level of mythology.
Thank you so much for this amazing lesson!
Is the Hellion intro a different video?
Imho one of the TOP 20 metal songs in general. Superb chorus, solos, intro and outro too
This riff is amazing. Also leads into so many riffafarian variations that can be made
I think i caught the kitchen sink with my face
Awesome lesson, very informative. Thanks!
Thanks!
Good tutorial! Thanks. What action or high string do you use on traste 12?
the JP on the fretboard clearly stands for "Judas Priest" and not "John Petrucci" ╚╬╝
Great lesson!
