Electron Brothers 228 Pre – Pedal Empire

Welcome to the Pedal Empire YouTube Channel!

Electron Brothers are a fairly new company based here in Australia. They have a background in electronics and repairs and started making some awesome pedals. This 228 Pre is one of my favourite pedals I’ve tried in a while with some really great Pre Amp tones reminiscent of some old recording desk and mic Pre’s. They start out nice and warm and as you drive the volume a bit you get some awesome grainy overdrive with some very nice texture and options to change the input and output gain mean you can shape it in lots of ways.
Using the gentle-slope HF (high frequency) and LF (low frequency) shelving controls, the signal can be shaped to suit the amp and other pedals in the chain. Slight adjustments can make your tone fat and responsive, or make some more extreme adjustments to use the 228 PRE boosting the midrange into an overdrive. Everything from full range to treble boosting is available with these controls.

Electron Brothers also get bonus points for making this thing LOOK so dang cool! Love the graphics and styling of thier pedals AND made right here in Aussie land 🙂

  • Faaark… Being my preferred pedal store out here, I would have bought this Monday had I of known of its existence. Was tossing up literally between hudson, Benson, crayon & some outliers I was less familiar with. I had to go with the toss of the coin which was the good ol' crayon. Given crayon are, I assume old stock these days, you did not have it in stock… And given I had one years ago, I would have much preferred this, cause ik the crayon will give me little clean headroom if I'm looking for just that small push to breakup.

Oh well… I'll likely be back for this in a few months time. I am on the hunt for a 'pre'!

Interesting you mention the design/look… Seems very similar to another Aussie brand, which was always too similar to DBA pedals. However, similarities aside, it does look very cool.

    Cheers man!!
