  • I always wanted one of these, but not sure I would drop that kind of money. For some reason I keep thinking that's a Gibson price, forgetting how much they've gone up as well. Then again, I keep thinking 1992 was just 10 years ago.

  • Sounds great. I’d never own a guitar that has a headstock like that. Needs viagra ????????

  • yes, i've always wanted an explorer
i like the sound them, they sound like SG
    but bigger, i'm 185cm tall
so holding an SG looks kinda funny

  • Epiphone made in China poly finish $1000-$1299 vs Used Gibson les paul honey burst tribute made in America, nitro finish roughly $750-$900 used… The choice is clear..

  • Gibson threw a hissy fit and banned my local retailer from carrying Gibson/Epiphone so we don't get these over here unless someone imports them. Bummer

  • Shane I’m a lefty and have both. Bought the Explorer first and was so impressed I had to get the V from the same run.

Wow both are amazing guitars, best Epiphones I’ve ever played.

You can get great deals on these as I reckon they were a little over priced

    Nice review dude

  • A friend of mine also got an epiphone explorer and it was amazing……I got the 61 sg and the toggle switch was goin out so I sent it back and the one they sent me also had trouble with the switch…..ugh

  • I have the ghosthorse and I absolutely love it.
Action can be set incredibly low without a fret level like most brands need to super low action.

  • "Sir? Sir, I think you'll find that – contrary to your video title – this is an electric guitar and we'd like you to refer to it as such."
    Epi's lawyers, maybe

  • I had a Custom Shop Firebird but sold it. I tried the new “Inspired “ by Gibson Epiphone and I couldn’t believe it. It plays exactly like the Custom Shop. I have a regular Firebird by Gibson and I never liked it because the neck was too thin. The Custom Shop Bird had a thick chunky neck that was so comfortable to play. The Epiphone has that exact neck. It plays and sounds amazing – just like the Custom Shop. It think the only difference is the Custom Shop has a Nitro finish and the Epiphone is Polyurethane. I haven’t tried this particular model of Explorer, but it’s probably the same quality as the Firebird.

  • Sound slightly dull and with an edgy mids like my practice Epiphone and unlike my main Gibson. Seems like nothing new….

  • They've had these for literally years in one of my local music stores. I don't think people are keen to pay $3k for this.
    It's not a good deal.

  • I got a matching set unbranded explorer and Flying V, same finish as this, with cheap guts, and hardware
This is fine for me because I like to install my own preferred electronics and hardware.

This reduces my cost only because I'm not paying for electronics and hardware I'm going to discard anyway, amd have to try selling them to someone else to get some of that cost back..
The build and finish quality of the body and neck are fantastic,
    exact guitar.. just left unbranded.

I have always wanted these guitars but have never been willing to pay their price, but that is only because I have my own specific preferences.. its the bodies which appeal to me.
I've never cared about brand names, especially since they bring ridiculous prices for average quality.
The highest I've ever paid for a guitar in my 55 years is $700 and that's my Ibanez artcore expressionist and I was very disappointed with the fret ends, they felt like a row of nails top and bottom.
And these two are the last guitars I plan on buying

I do have a Jackson Flying V but I've never really liked the body or neck design.
I planned on selling it but my youngest kid wants it so..

Personally I believe Epiphone should make these guitars available unbranded to the general public (as I got) but only through a very good connection.
They could offer them gutless or with cheap guts and no branding.
The market for this would be huge, but they just won't be talked into it.. it will always remain a very rare instance such as mine.
But there's also a deal/legal conditions which came with my guitars.

  • I work in a guitar store – bought the Explorer after 5 seconds of testing. An incredibly good guitar, even for the money.

Epiphone does very smart things, the high priced models are insanely good deals. Our sales figures show that.
Gibson has its biggest competitor in the same house.

  • I purchased the LH Korina Flying V and it is an amazing guitar with similar case. It was tough to choose between the Explorer.

  • While the price will turn folks away, the tones, visual, and build quality seems to justify the cost. I never understood why people get so upset about the price of guitars (the only exception is Australia, you guys have a legitimate complaint). With the amount of quality options, there is a guitar for most budgets. If you have champagne tastes and a beer budget, find a shop that has that guitar and see if they can work with you. Great video Shane, you look like an Explorer kind of guy!!!!!????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • U, should buy it, I never heard you sound/play better – the specs, the electronics/neck profile? – I would like one…I'd like to know what you played it through…or did I miss….

  • Shane, I cannot thank you enough for all of the great demos. Your tones are simply the best and your playing is awesome too.

  • In Canada that guitar is 1900 dollars. What a F**KING Ripoff!!! It's an Epiphone, who do they think they are? GIBSON!!! especially considering the explorer and the flying v are the two most ugliest guitars EVER made!!!!

  • That beastie really suits you, Shane, although … playing it sitting down will probably incur the wrath of some YT trolls ????

  • The laurel alway put me off for such an expensive guitar, that fretboard looks a nice colour though

  • My 70s Explorer fits on a Hercules display rack in case anyone is curious about storing Explorers.

  • Dude they got a lefty hoping you’ll fall in love with it and buy it!!! You’re one of a very few who can play it!????????????

  • Get rid of the backing track. On a phone, it merely garbles the guitar… Especially when there’s another guitar…

  • She is gorgeous with great pickups, proper Switchcraft and CTS electronics, and medium jumbo frets, all is good ……

  • Could never afford the Gibson but I got this one. Fantastic guitar, the build is excellent and no problems. I love the finish, big neck which I like lovely to play. I had a spare set of custombuckers which I have put in so a bit closer to the Gibson custom shop without the price.
