Epiphone Les Paul Special VE Review

Epiphone Les Paul Special VE | Review Demo

I review and demo the 2017 Epiphone Les Paul Special VE finished in Cherry Sunburst.

The Epiphone Les Paul Special VE cost £119 in the UK with free shipping so a great cost for a Les Paul.

Les Paul Special VE (Vintage Edition) electric guitar featuring the classic Les Paul profile with a lightweight Poplar body. The Les Paul Special VE is powered by Epiphone Open Coil humbuckers

  • i dont recommend this guitar. it sucks imo. i know its an entry level guitar but quality control was terrible over this, quality in coils and switch is pretty disappointing, they did almost fall apart. fret work is amazingly bad, always a fretbuzz. sustain is terrible, and never stays in tune, me and my friends played some music and i was tuning my guitar in every 15 minutes.i know some people doesnt have enough money but trust me, get a job and buy an epiphone les paul studio. studio model and standard model are same quality. they just have different cosmetics. binding and flame top etc. do not buy this guitar. it will be a waste of your money

  • in mine the neck is okay. i "only" needed to adjust intonation, some saddles needed to turned around to be in tune. bridge pickup is somewhat harsh for me

  • hello everyone this guitar is actually VERY good! I own one in worn cherry colour and you can checkout the awesome sound here in my video https://youtu.be/RJsWJgevizk

I sent it to my local luthier and have him do a full setup which includes:

    fret levelling.
    intonation.
    saddle height.
    wiring work.
    pickups height.
    action adjustment.
    etc.

and i upgraded the tuning pegs for better tuning stability. swapped the original with a locking tuner.

After that it plays and sounds awesome!!

The whole thing only cost around 100 bucks. around 400 MYR in my local currency.

it could be cheaper for you depending on where you live and the service costs

But of course, out of the box…it needs some work

  • Im thinking of buying this guitar. But its unusual to those les pauls i know. Can I install pickguards on this one like on the standard ones?

  • I have one of this, and is a really good entry level guitar. A few things to consider, right after buying change the strings, you'll see the improvement right away. After a couple of months I swap the tuners, the factory ones are not the best you'll save yourself some headaches with this.

  • Would you recommend this or like a fender bullet start or affinity in the 100-200 pound range best guitar for that price?

  • I got mine set up today and makes all the difference in the world. My finish looks like Leslie West's guitar and it plays quite nice

  • I just picked up one of these for $139.00 US brand new. The dealer was blowing out his Epiphone aged stock. It is in the worn Vintage Sunburst finish. I think I am going to have some fun with it. I mainly play acoustic so I Iook forward to playing around with it.

  • I have one of these but swapped out the ceramic open pickups for Epiphone Alnico Classics from the Epi Les Paul Standard (which I got for cheap on eBay) and put in better volume and tone pots. It plays very nicely, no work needed on the frets on mine.
