  • After first listening I was surprised by the length being told 89mn, I was like "did I get a shorter version?".
I guess this what an album should be. We are in 2025, we shoud move ahead the frozen format of titles like a pack of cigaretes. Music is a journey, it's an experience, it's a tale, it's an organism, it's a vision, a monologue, a prayer. Excellent move. Bold and faithfull.

  • I started listen to Ethel Cain a couple weeks ago, and to me Perverts is the way Hayden found to express what it feels like being a trans woman from a religious conservative family background in the rawest way possible…the previous work of her is more like what Ethel Cain is, a character that Hayden uses as a mask, but in Perverts she´s cracking that mask and saying to us all "did you really think a trans woman like me would sing about the sheer horror that is being born into a religious family in that way? hear me out: I´m goth, I´m dark, my family believes in something that tells them that I´m a walking sin…how the fuck would I not have an abyss inside my soul?"

  • ‘Punish’ sounds like Chelsea Wolfe singing over a moodier version of Sweden by C418 from the Minecraft soundtrack and I love it

  • Did we maybe stop to think Ethel Cain had some Old Dreams Waiting To Be Realized, so now she’s Shaking The Habitual

  • I'm actually in the same boat as you with Ethel Cain. I gave The Preacher's Daughter many tries because the aesthetic surrounding it made it seem like something I'd love (indeed, something more Chelsea Wolfe and/or Grouper-esque), but I just couldn't connect with it. Perverts, on the other hand, was exactly what I'd been hoping for from Ethel Cain in the first place. And it just gets better on every listen. Now I'm super hyped for whatever she does next!

  • This just auto-played after your review of Hurry Up Tomorrow, and the way the video started killed me ????

  • I’m a fan of “preachers daughter” and still loved this work also. I think I’m just a fan of Hayden in general.

  • Insanely beautiful project, the contrast between ideas is transfixing, made me sit and listen in a way very few albums do

  • Thought I'd check out Ethel Cain cos I heard the name so often. Did NOT expect this. Turns out neither did fans. Some really nice sounds on here. Didn't get bored once through the whole run time.

  • After listening to this album I really hope David Lynch had a chance to hear this before he passed. I feel like he would’ve appreciated the experimental sound.

  • Listening to this album after making content/playing "Mouthwashing" was maybe the best, worst idea I've ever had.

Thanks again for another great review!

  • what did you think ab thatorchia? that was my personal favorite drone track (if you could consider it drone im new to the genre)

  • im sorry but some of the trash youre giving 8's to is embarrassing. this album is like if you took the first few progressions from anything on preachers daughter, and then extended them for an entire track while ignoring literally everything that made preachers daughter memorable. this album would be great on a film or something that had the visual stimulus to match it, but creating some generic atmospheric drone which sounds like it could be literally from 100s of different artists or some random soundcloud witchcore person is just not cutting it today.

  • I’m obsessed with this album. It was totally unexpected and just scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had. Ethel should continue to lean into her artistic inspiration. This was a great project.

  • That Sun Ra Album you have up top there. Strange Celestial Road is my favorite album of all time major props!

  • I’m a 65 year old fan of Ethel/Hayden. My daughter introduced me to her. She made sure she held back American Teenager because she didn’t want me to get a false impression. Preacher’s Daughter has been a consistent play over the past year or so. I was hesitant to watch this review because I’d seen your PD one and I thought you were a bit unfair but the criticisms were the ones you might make. I was apprehensive about Perverts because this dark drone stuff is way out of my usual tastes. The release of Punish (which I’d seen in concert along with amber waves) made me think “okay, but maybe not this album”. But like you said, in the context of the album…..

First listen I thought “that was weird. I’ll listen a few more times but that’ll be it I’m sure”, but it grew on me. It’s pretty unique within my collection and downloaded music. I’m enjoying it more and more. I still think at some point I’ll put it away but I have no idea when.

I think your review captured it exceptionally well. It’s thoughtful and fascinating. I can genuinely see you do have an interest in Hayden as an artist. And I think that’s something I really appreciate about this EP. It’s not giving the finger to any fans but she’s saying I’m an artist and I’m going to make the art/music that I want to, not what fans might wish for. That’s a true artist in my books. We’re invited but not all will go.

  • up until this EP, all i listened to were her darker tracks, wanting desperately to hear more of that from her and neglecting the rest of her catalog as a result. perverts has been on heavy repeat since its release. this is exactly what i wanted to hear – i'm obsessed!!!!
