  • I got a Weber MiniMass for my 7-watt all-tube amp and use it with my 5-watt Fender VCR and it is fantastic. The tone I get by cranking both (at what is a bit higher than most people's max apartment volume) is always better than any overdrive pedal.

  • and while the clean tone caught my attention, I understand that being able to get real, cranked-amp distortion, especially from a Vox (I have a small one, 4 watt, that I built an extension cab for) always seems to sound better than getting it from a pedal, so the real payoff of the Ox is probably in the overdriven high gain sound.

  • i just got one these too. Still trying figure out why I need it in addition to my Quad Cortex.

  • Bro instead tu use an amp can I use an amp pedal like iridium and have the sound in my audio monitors?

  • Mike, if you really want to gain muscle, you need to get some quality whey protein and cut bad carbs and sugar out of your diet. Lift heavy but only three times a week. Do compound exercises and not isolation exercises. A small teaspoon of Creatine with your protein shake will help a lot, don't over do the Creatine. Good carbs are helpful, sweet potatoes and brown rice are great, bread and pasta are not. Great video by the way.

  • he would have an inkling what a digital amp modeler is since analog modelers already existed (rockman) but they would ask "who the hell is polyphia?"

  • + 1 for a good impressions video of the Ox box.

Minus 1 000 000 to the infinite for saying something bad against the 90s.

Still, you're making it up by being a good guitarist so that's ok ???? ????

  • Yep, the Ox is the best single bit of kit that I’ve ever bought. The lack of updates has been disappointing but at the same time it still provides the best recorded tones that I’ve ever had.

  • ???????????????????????? Duane ALLMAN probably the best slide guitar player to ever do the damn thing. At least you found them tho brother

  • You are the second person this year that just listened to the Allman Brothers band. My nephew decided that it was life changing. It really helped him level up on piano and keyboard. Great video

  • Mike, all due respect but how is it that someone with close to 143k followers on a guitar channel has never used, let alone owned the UA OX? It's been around for so long now there are even rumors of a new version coming soon.

  • Biggest innovation in guitar in recent years?
Well, funny you'd ask, 'cause I only started playing a few years ago, so… 🙂

  • Modellers like Helix and Fractal that can adequately replace your entire professional rig is, without a doubt, the biggest innovation in my 40 years as a pro. Load boxes and attenuators have been around since the 70’s… not a new innovation.

  • 0:11 well i started playing in 1995 , and the big game changer is that back then the affordable guitars where crap and the amps were solid state , a tube amp of descent quality costed well over a 1000 . so there , being able to start playing with lets say a squire tele and a marchall dsl5 for 850 or so is gold

  • DSP chips, Digital Signal Processing… Genie is out of the bottle and there is no way back…

  • How different is the ox from a two notes captor? I tried my best to like the captor, but it never sounded real to me

  • In 1990 chances are that the guy would ve said ''what the heck is a computer''

  • Thanks for a great UA OX demo! (And just when I thought I finally had overcome severe G.A.S.)

  • Good for you, sound wise, and to respect the neighbors tranquility. Personally I use digital modeling through fx return of a tube amp.

  • I live in a house with my own basement studio.
I regularly crank my Marshall 1987x and Fender Twin Reverb as loud as they will go, good times for sure.
I'm still somewhat modern in that I do sometimes use a Rivera Rockcrusher Recording, the Ox is awesome, someday I might have to get one.

  • Another option (which I use) and which is about 1/2 the price of the OX box, is the Two Notes Captor X. I also live in an apartment and always play using headphones. I love being able to get a killer tone even at 3:00 AM, and no one else will hear anything – so no more complaints and threats of eviction from the rental office. My signal chain is: Guitar -> Pedalboard -> Vintage 1964 Deluxe Reverb amp -> Captor X -> Yamaha mixer, w/Strymon BlueSky stereo reverb pedal in the FX loop -> Headphones. I can use the mixer to play along silently to YT videos or any audio source I want. Yes, total game changer. Keep up the great (and entertaining) videos, Mike!

  • Why not just do full emulation and ditch the amps all together? Some of them are so good a lot of albums are recorded with them instead of a real amp.

  • Theo Katzman uses one to great effect in all his solo and Vulfpeck stuff, I always wondered what it was for!

  • If you want a guitar player that you can study to improve your picking hand, it's Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac. Start with Never Going Back Again. That riff doesn't sound possible on one guitar when you first hear it

  • My personal game changer was getting a Novo guitar. Hands down the best thing that has come out in the guitar world. Not exactly new, but so good. Put aside the amp modeler. Get back to playing guitar. Buy a Novo and you will never touch another Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, or Gretsch….

  • Dude. Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East is essential listening. I know you will (if you haven’t already) just love that album. Great video. That unit seems cool, but I would probably hold on to my amp for sentimental reasons as an emotional lifeboat.????
