  • I'm really enjoying watching this, James. I have gone right back to using my first ever amp; a Laney Pro Session 120 Reverb from the early 80s, which I bought when i was 14 years old, and I will be 50 this year!

There is so much we could talk about, kiddo. We should meet up, as I have lots to tell you, as I am sure you do too!

  • I have a 68 deluxe reverb reissue, and I have noticed that it sounds better on the floor as well. At least to my ears. When I lift it, it seems to lose some bass vs on the floor where it sounds more full. I actually didn't even know about the tone masters when I bought mine just a few months ago. I could have saved several hundred dollars. I have already determined that my next fender will be a TM rather than the tube version. The cost of the tube versions is just ridiculous now!

  • What desk are you using for your computer? Odd question, but I am looking for something easy.

  • Thanks for your video. I owned both DRTMs (black and blond), but only now have the black one as it sounds more like the DRs I used for years, the blonde is very good, but sounds like a slightly different amp in a DR cabinet to me. Great gigging amps with no issues.

  • Thanks for your thoughts on this amp James. I appreciate your frankness and no nonsense opinion.

I was on the fence over the non-tube modelling, but bought the TMDR Blonde to try it out. I didn’t like the sound of the Celestion Neo speaker. I loaded the firmware with the Jensen Neo speaker and the virtual bright cap clipped to compare. Ended up changing the speaker to a UK made Celestion Gold. This made a big improvement to the sound. It added a couple pounds to the weight, but it’s still 5 lbs lighter than my Tweed Deluxe. The reverb and trem seem very digital to me, but a Strymon Flint took care of that. The XLR out sounds quite good and is very useable. Overall, it’s a fairly inexpensive and decent sounding lightweight alternative to lugging a real tube amp. We’ll see how things go, once I put some miles on it.

  • Replaced my tube '65 Deluxe with a ToneMaster. 99% delighted (after firmware update,) the other 1% was fulfilled by adding an Oceans 11 reverb pedal. The amp's reverb was the only thing that really sounded digital.
