Fender Highway Series Acoustic Guitar – First Impressions!

The Fender Highway Series Dreadnought and Parlor Acoustic guitars are reminiscent of the old Gibson Chet Atkins SSTs Dave Matthews used to play, so I was STOKED to check them out.

  • It’s a cool guitar and playing it in person it’s fun. Wouldn’t mind owning a one.

  • Great review, I want to like it. I agree with most others, need major upgrades before I will buy. The pickups and I agree, that headstock is hideous on an acoustic.

  • It just sounds very high-end to me sound wise not quality wise.
Maybe in person it sounds more rich and full

  • Good review! Just FYI about one of your comments about Taylor however. Taylor changed from their magnetic pickups (ES-1) to a behind the saddle piezo based pickup (ES-2) way back in 2014. ????

  • I wanted to hate it too, then I played it. And I hated it. The only thing this would ever be useful for would be a cricket bat. And it wouldn't even be good at that. Buy a real acoustic folks, these things are shite. So are the acoustasonics. They sound like a casino unplugged, not an acoustic guitar.

  • Just bought mahogany dread. The acoustic version kinda sucks, like you’re playing a $25 used guitar. The EQ doesn’t move the tonality all that much. I think plugged in you’ll need a separate EQ pedal and it sounds good, not great but good.
    Gets a 6/10⭐️

  • Very bad sound … For the same price you can find acoustic guitars with much better sound …
Fender what is happening to you?

  • Does the battery for the pickup still die without a solution as to how to replace it? Does the bridge still lift off the front plate after a while? I love the idea of that guitar but I've heard some straight up horror stories about the Acoustasonic.

  • Great Review!
What is your experience like with the battery? Does it kinda make you think twice about plugging it in?
I initially expected it to last like a year and you wouldn't have to worry about it too much. But from what I heard and the numbers Fender communicates (like 22 hrs battery life), it seems like it's something you have to constantly think about, when using this guitar…
What is your experience like when it comes to the battery?

  • Would love to see what this does with a good acoustic processing system. I kinda hate how it sounds direct in as you demoed it. Not very acoustic at all. But with an IR? Maybe? Would definitely be interested in a follow-up, though. I want a thin and comfortable acoustic for live use.

  • I like the idea but think they could do it much better. A better pickup system with a better EQ and this would kill. Maybe an under bridge, the fishman and a pickup on the underside of the top for the tapping with a 3 band eq.

  • I’m sorry to say that the tones are nowhere near my Martin HD-28V or any of the acoustic guitars I own.

  • Great review Tom, good suggestions that you made. Did you try it with a range of amps to see where it really shines?

  • The headstock look isn't good. I actually own another type of acoustic Fender, and it has that headstock too. I dislike it still, after all these years. Acoustics can look so very nice with a good-looking headstock, and Fender is doing it wrong here.

  • Good review. But errr – NO. If this guitar were mine, I would NOT want to put a piezo under saddle pickup in – because for me the tone is always far too brittle and not at all pleasant. What I WOULD do would be to have a K&K contact pickup system put in. THAT would sound better than ANY piezo pickup by ANY manufacturer.
