Fender Musicmaster Bass Amp w/ Volume/Tone & Coupling Cap mods Demo

Demonstration of a modified MMB amp that has had the Vol/Tone & Coupling Cap mods performed. My apologies for a couple of hings. First, the “Talking Hands” style of video. Yeah, well you don’t need my ugly mug on screen, it’s about the amp, not me. I must be part Italian, can’t talk without waving my hands. Second, the self gratuitous wanking, sorry man, I couldn’t help it. It’s just that kind of amp, it makes you misbehave.

  • I had an amp tech do your suggested mods on my Musicmaster. It sounds fantastic. I pretty much leave the tone at 2-3 because higher than that it gets a bit too icy on top to my ears. With a Jensen P12Q in it, it starts to break up some at about 3 on the volume, and anything above that is blues and rock heaven. Cleans are brilliant on it as well, for low volume work. I made the mistake of bringing it to an outdoor small-park gig, and I learned quickly that it's not going to work well for cleaner material in that larger setting (had to turn the volume to 6-7 for the right volume, but the gain was pretty intense for smoother, cleaner stuff). At $400-700 in the open market today, it's hard to find a better value. I had good results in the studio with it recently, played clean, but I think of it as excelling particularly as a blues/rock amp. The rich warm tone coupled with the natural gain above 4 is glorious and hard to beat. Thanks for sharing your expertise and wisdom.
