I have the J bass version of this bass (Player series) and paid $700. It’s a really good bass for the money. I haven’t played an American made bass, so can’t really say how they compare, but if the American is better, I’d be very impressed. This being said, the Player series is high quality stuff.
Hi I am sorry, i am a beginer on playing bass. I try P Bass last time. I wanna ask, is it the tone pot/knob work only full volume? Or I just can find the different?
4:50 You can buy a Mexican Fender made by Mexicans in Mexico or you can buy an American Fender made in America by Mexicans.
Just got one for $679 while they are marked down. Apparently Fender is clearing these out to make way for the Player II series or whatever they decide to call them. My guess is that the new ones will come with rosewood fretboards and upgraded electronics. Probably with an upgraded price tag too. So get one while you can.
Good point, at the minute mark. All the mex Fenders have late ‘80’s feel as what you would expect from a U.S fender of that era.
Of course what this means is I’m an old hipster from that era, that was selling them at that time , lol
Pau ferro is so dry and uncomfortable…I tried to like it but looks like maple is the only way to go. However, I thought I was a med/jumbo guy but the narrow/tall c shape on the 40th anniversary p basses are phenomenal! That neck blows fender player out of the water in its satin finish.
I have a 69 Fender Precision w/Jazz Neck at the time custom color, Ocean Turqoise, block inlay on rosewood neck/bought at the music store I worked for in 1969. 2024 and Fender Custom Shop says "Sorry we won't touch it because you don't have a receipt"; although I do have owners manual with name of "E Paxton", only Custom Shop in Colorado is HB Woodsong, Boulder. I thought Fender had control of their channel. I believe HC Woodsong is telling Fender that no receipt, no work. Moving away from Fender. If they would do this to a Senior, think what they'll do to you. Buyer Beware. I will post this on other sites selling Fender.
Got the same Fender player series P Bass you have in this video. Great bass indeed. Got on Black Friday for $645.
The thing I like about this bass and the American performer bass, is that they come with the standard bass bridge. The Pro 2 basses come with a high mass bridge, that make the tones and attack punchier. I actually played a Pro 2 p bass and prefer the Performer bass better and would probably like this one as well. Also, The MIM basses have that cool stripe on the back of the neck, that the US basses don't have.
30 seconds of playing and 8 minutes of your voice. Very helpful.
You lost me with your Pau Ferro comments
I bought this exact bass in Oct. 2022. Love it, but the truss rod broke just before Christmas. Fender is covering under warrantee, but 4-6 months for a new neck from Mexico. Really? It is sad that I have to wait so long because of their F-Up.
Love my Mim P bass in sunburst. Great quality for the price.
Just picked up one of these on nyd for $699, on sale down from $849. Mine has a rosewood neck, but I’ve never seen one like this one. The actual fretboard seems to have no finish on it? If that’s a thing? And the neck has I believe a satin finish like the one you have in this video. Should I oil it or anything? Anyway, great video and review!
Edit: It’s pau ferro I figured out. Had never seen it, and wasn’t up to speed with the fretboard world.
Now at $849. Got one today first thing I noticed how damn high the strings were. Have to adjust down to what feels like 1/4 of an inch
I've got an unusual example that I bought new. Serial # indicates made in 2017. Bought as a player series according to the decal on the pickguard. Polar white maple fretboard but has reverse gear tuners. WTF? Love it and it plays and sounds great. Just seems unusual. Thoughts?
MX made?
My MIM Player is waaaay better than my 58 reissue!
MIM is half the price, much better build, solid, better bottom end, tight definition.
My main stage bass now, my $4000 Reissue is my spare bass.
What did you think after going head to head with the American Professional II?
Do they even have this color anymore??
The ONLY thing I would do to this bass is change the strings to Medium Flatwound strings. I need at least one stock Fender bass. My other basses are modified.
Anybody who wants one they're on sale on musicians friend for 675. Normally 875.
A made in mexico bass shouldnt be $700-$800 too much..price has doubled? Hmmmm used to be 4 or $500
I dont mind a gloss neck..gloss fretboard feels good..But..i just sand down the back of the neck to make it more smooth and less sticky..
So is there anything cheaper.thats the same as made in mexico..like from the 90s? Cause i bought a new bass then for $400 MIM..now they like $700-$800 ? Too much.any other options?
Just picked up a Player Series P-bass today at CG. Went back and forth for awhile between that and a J-Bass. Love them both but the P-bass 'player series" had more thunder on the lows and mids, and great growl on the higher end, and with a pick. So much dexterity for a passive bass. It's going to quickly become my go-to.
Been playing one for years. Preferred it over others.
