  • The thing I love most about these earlier performances is just how much Elvis was having fun while at the same time inventing himself as the benchmark for entertainers (without even realizing it). Thank you Mike, it was another great analysis.

  • This is peak Rock and Roll Elvis: gritty vocals, rhythmic phrasing, wild movements, teasing audience with a mixture of bad boy sex kitten appeal and adorable goofiness. If one needs to see why this artist brought such convulsions to the world: show them this.

  • I love Elvis's very early TV shows on the Tommy Dorsey such as this one even more than those on the Ed Sullivan mainly because there was no restrain, he was allowed to show all of himself, it was not filmed from the waist up like on the Ed Sullivan. Can you please react to all of the Tommy Dorsey performances and the Milton Berne shows are really worth watching also. I love your reactions, thank you so much!

  • Of course if you watch the Elvis 56 Documentary…on one said you had Pat Boone Performing,…then Elvis comes along like the Atomic Powered singer!!!….see the Above Performance was censored, filmed from the waist up…????????…Not sure if you've featured Fame and Fortune from the Sinatra Show…love the way he sings the back up also….he loved the Bass singers.. Stuck On You…another excellent song from the same show…Also love the song…You don't know Me….Stunningly beautiful

  • I am so glad to see you new people finally discovering this amazing talent. I have been a fan for over 60 years.
God created the world in 7 days. On the 8th day, he created Elvis. This man is not a result of mere genetics…God did this. God was showing off his best work here.
May I suggest his greatest ballad "Tomorrow Never Comes". Also, his Gospel literally "takes you to church". Examples: I Really Don't Want To Know, Rags To Riches, O Sole Mio.
There was never anything like him nor will there ever be again. He was "IT". Enjoy.

  • I really like listening to your commentary on these Elvis performances. You really watch closely and notice everything, which is great.

When I first saw these early performances I immediately noticed how he is constantly looking all around and taking everything in and not just staring straight ahead. He really enjoyed performing and it shows ????

  • Spot On reaction again Mike! I would turn 10 years old that month in September of 56, and I watched Elvis that night at home with my family! I was already a fan and was buying his records. My Dad knew Elvis would be on, and made sure I got to watch it, because he knew I loved Elvis’s music already! Most parents didn’t want there kids to see Elvis, but he just wanted me to be happy! My father was one of the few parents who realized that Elvis had a great voice because he heard me playing hie records all the time!! YES Mike Elvis was a phenomenal performer, he loved his fans, he credited us for his success, and he performed to please his audiences and knew exactly how to do it!! The King Of Music! Always and Forever ????????????

  • ????????❤️????????????????????❤️This performance from Elvis is full of joy. Every time I watch this I can’t help but feel lifted and happy, it fills me with the joy. Elvis and all those on stage with him project through the music and ultimately through his voice and full of life performance, a feeling of real enjoyment and the audience respond in kind. Elvis and the guys make it look easy but there is real artistry going on here. Thank you again Mike for a great reaction and interesting and spot on analysis of this timeless classic from Mr Elvis Aaron Presley????.

  • Where was Elvis & where was Ed Sullivan. On September 9, 1956, neither Elvis nor Ed Sullivan were in the studios that day for broadcasting. A month before Elvis' appearance on his show, Sullivan suffered from an almost fatal automobile crash that left him hospitalized for weeks and was unable to recover from his injuries quickly enough. British actor Charles Laughton filled in for Sullivan as host for Presley's debut performance on Sullivan's show. With regards to Elvis, he also was not in New York where the Sullivan show was broadcast from – Elvis was actually at Television City in Hollywood where he was in the middle of filming "Love Me Tender." And it was Laughton who introduced Elvis that night making it all appear like Elvis was on the Ed Sullivan stage.

  • Another great bouncy one from '56 is from his very first TV appearance on The Dorsey Bros. "Stage Show" entitled "Elvis Presley – "Shake, Rattle & Roll / Flip, Flop & Fly" | Stage Show 1956 | HD Restored." Unable to put link here but I can send to you. Thanks a lot.

  • Spot on as usual. I do get fed up watching some (not all) of the young reactors on here saying 'that doesn't look very controversial' etc and not comparing this to Perry Como on TV singing 'Hot diggerty dog' from exactly the same year. Elvis was the 'Big Bang' and this was seismic for the 1950s. Elvis was "the greatest cultural force of the 20th century" – Leonard Bernstein.
