  • I would pick the sir psycho sex bass line as (one of) Flea's funkiest line on this album. It's simple, just add a basic drum beat and you get such a groovy result

  • 5:04 uma coisa que eu penso sobre essa liberdade do flea no baixo, é claro que sua criatividade, mas a banda percebe e lhe dá esse "espaço" esse " tempo"

  • If you e never heard of Funky Monks, you are not a fan. BSSM is their best album BY FAR and IMHO the best album of all time. It’s magical.

  • They where all suddenly geniuses.
Something hides in that house. Nothing before or after the album they recorded there, ever came close..

  • How have you 2 mofos not covered the end of AFTERLIFE yet off the latest rhcp release? It's loaded with great bass, and the outro chords will cave your face in. I would like to see a video of both of you figuring out the end lol. Was super fun for me

  • T.m. stevens (rip) played a fantastic hidden bass solo at the end of his album radioactive. I don t wanna spoil anything but everyone who picked up a bass just once should listen to it

  • I feel like there's a little bit of snobbery when it comes to players like flea, for example when bass players broaden their horizons or get some jazz chops, go to college, etc etc. It's cool to be a fan of say Pino, or Jaco, but not so much flea, even though every one pretty much grew up learning that stuff. Maturity is going full circle beyond that, coming back and realising he's really a superb and creative player and deserves a lot of respect

  • I would argue his most funky bassline that is definitely hidden is the bassline on You Outta Know – Alanis Morsette it’s so lost in the mix but it is soooooo good

  • Recently saw the Chilis in Atlanta, 8/10/22. They came back for the encore and went straight into Sir Psycho Sexy, no one saw it coming. Great show.

  • This (part of the) song was actually my favorite RHCP song for a long time! My first CD at age 6 or 7 or so was RHCP BSSM… (because my older cousin accidentally left it at my parent's house and I stumbled across it). Pretty sure this album helped steer me into funk music in general as I tried to figure out what influenced this era of RHCP. Great stuff

  • Scott, you've discussed this line before. Don't pretend like you've never heard it for the camera.

  • Thanks for the transcriptions: ages ago I learned almost the whole album but have skipped that part, now I have no excuse, I must learn it! ????

  • It’s funnet how this was great because of Scott’s energy and enthusiasm… and now with Ian added in it’s 1+1 = 11. Because you to “go to 11” ???? love how you enjoy exploring, explaining and enjoying this! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights.

  • This is the album I think of when I think of the best of the RHCP. Every song should’ve been a single. Those that didn’t have the album/cd, don’t know what they were missing! Flea is outstanding.

  • 1989, Tijuana, (at Iguana's) , 600? people in the room, 2 nights in a row, Butthole Surfers opened. Mothers Milk tour. I was there both nights. So hyped.

  • Okay. When talking "Funkiest Bass Lines." One must consider "In Time" by Sly and the Family Stone. It's my all time funkest. I dare you to play the song all the way through!

  • As a man who has all but the very newest album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I was almost expecting something older and even more obscure. Funky Monks is like one of the hits off that album if you ask me.

  • I was expecting a real hidden….I'have been listening this pastoriuslike outro for decades…

  • So glad you guys broke this down. It's my single most favourite bassline ever, so great to see it getting the respect it deserves!
