I’m Scott from Chernobyl Studios, and I’m just like you: a home studio musician and mixing engineer. From the beginning of my journey, all I ever wanted was to have a big, massive, metal guitar tone for my music.
In 2013, I started to study mixing and tone crafting more seriously so I could bring this desire to life. What I didn’t know was that I was venturing into a world of conflicting information and secrecy. Maybe it sounds a bit dramatic, but how many times have you seen a video on YouTube that claimed you could “sound like the pros in minutes,” just to find out they have thousands of dollars in gear and plugins and really didn’t explain anything anyway? These videos never helped me get a better idea of how to create my guitar tones.
I wasted money on plugins I didn’t need, followed advice that wasn’t helpful, and made every mistake you can think of multiple times over. 6 years of frustration later and I now know what it actually takes to great amazing guitar tones.
You don’t need thousands of dollars in amps, heads, guitars, cables, pedals, or anything like that—you can even use completely free plugins. All you need is a simple method that you can follow step-by-step and practice. Guitar Tone Mastery is that method.
It’s time to learn how to craft big sounding metal guitar tones with amp simulators!

What are your favorite tricks for getting amazing guitar tones?
Been watching Scott’s videos for a while now and love the approach to teaching an art. Hard to find someone who plays this particular style with the level of detail he gives.
explained really well and down to earth. Thanks
My goodness this approach will greatly increase mixing time and may add frustration enough to affect the creativity and inspiration side when writing music. Shouldn't the Cab IR you chose be the key in itself than altering one so much with all these cuts adding other issues like phase or delay.
This guy is the man!
Im subscribed but this guy shouldnt be teaching. His "tones" sound like pure mud with fizz on top. He cant dial a clear or thick tone and no one who takes their music serious uses this crap. You can get a cheap tube amp and impulses and it sounds 10x better. The amp sim doesnt sound real no matter what you do to it. It has a nasally 300hz and a nasty 4k range no matter how you eq the crap. Sure some people can dial them amazingly but its not this guy.
21:05 Now a days you can just use soothe
The frequency solo button on the ProQ3 is pretty sweet for the resonance hunting.
Broo The course link is not available anymore
I’ve learned more from Scott than any other guy out there. Even if he just teaches extreme metal still just has a way of explaining things until you finally get it. You finally know how to use your ears
Good vid..I have a Scarlett solo, and I also upgraded to RME babyface…my issue is using neural dsp plugins and helix native in Cubase pro 11, my guitars all sound super bassy or mid emphasized..boxy or nasal too..I have high end guitars (ibanez JS Suhr Classic custom, PRS Custom, 2 Strandbergs with Fishman Fluences, and new strings..but yet, I get very bass/muddy/nasal..almost like a light wah on as filter tones…? Anyone have any ideas?
Hey There,
I really love this video and thinking every day to get the course.
I am not a metal player, I am a Blues and Rock Guitar Beginner.
Will this course help me ? or is it only made for Metal Guitar Tones ?
Alright,I need help. I've followed a million mix lessons, I bought your time course, I use "the best" IR's, and my tones/final mixes don't sound like I want them. They're always too thin sounding or not near enough bottom end. WTF do I do? Is it a simple amp setting that needs to change?
What does a bad time sound like? Or look like on frequencies?
Whats up scott, jon Williams turned me on to your channel.. we jammed at his house 05-07ish.. remember the pic with the flaming drumsticks?? Ha ha
I doing eq of my guitars many years, but i wond to tell you that yours manual is the best things that i ever seen before. Thanks
The mid cut, do you recommend doing it in "Dynamic Mode" since it will give a more "realistic" situation?
Do you use the "Natural Phase" option? or leave at zero latency……..
This is a fantastic video! I found this really great for helping me EQ my guitar. Are many of the strategies and moves you made in this video applicable to a mic'd up amp? Thanks
I was TERRIBLY afraid of doing a high cut of 7k in my guitar tone but it sounded sooo good… until i saw this video, who cares if it sounds good??? Damn, the only one i have seen doing this, thanks
im in a and g flat on 7s
right on bro my ears are fked lol so were good lol so help pls feel freem/death metal players1m/
