GR Bass AT 212 Slim (700W) vs AT 212 Slim+ (900W), driven by GR Bass ONE 800 amplifier
This is a demo comparing the GR Bass AT 212 Slim cabinet (rated at 700 Watts) against the GR Bass AT 212 Slim+ cabinet (rated at 900 Watts).
I am playing a new Skjold Gen 5/33 bass (5 string, 33″ scale” through a GR Bass ONE 800 amplifier.
The cabinets are mic’d with an EV RE20 microphone.
The mic was placed along the edge of the speaker cone, perpendicular to the grille.
Upon listening to this video, I see that the mic should have either been placed closer to the center of the cone, and/or it should have been angled slightly toward the center of the cone in order to pick up more highs. It sounds too boomy because of the mic placement.
Unfortunately, the Slim+ cabinet has already been shipped out, so I won’t be able to repeat this test for several more weeks until I get another Slim+ in stock again.
UPDATE: Check the Pinned Comment for two timestamps to jump between. I am playing the exact same riff with each cabinet, with no changes to bass or amp settings. Listening with headphones, I hear SLIGHTLY more upper mids on the 900W version.
Leave a comment letting me know if you hear a difference.
The speakers and bass are available at JohnFoxBass.com

I’m looking at the 12 combo – the demo is great and the only thing I cannot believe is the lightness of the cabinets! Lovely work – just mind blown by what you get out of them.
I’ve been looking for a backup for my beloved Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T, and have heard a lot of good things about the GR amps, but I’m very hesitant to invest in them without playing through them. I recently had a chance to visit my old Washington DC area music store haunt which carries the GR line, so I got a chance to play the 800 head through a variety of the carbon fiber cabinets. The lightness of the cabs is stunning of course, but the tone is also amazing. I played through everything they had, including the AT-115, AT-212+, AT 210V+, AT 110, and the 6×10 (which would be overkill for me). While they all sounded great, I was especially drawn to the 1×15. I’m a P bass guy and the 1×15 just had a deep beautiful buttery tone that matched the passive P bass so well. That’s the one I think I’m gonna get. Have you played through the 1×15?
Gr Bass is the rising, abroad, amp and cabs star.
i don't know if it's the amp or the bass but man that sounds amazing
Hi John, is there much difference between the 212 slim+ and the standard 212+? Might the 212 slim+ be enough as a stand-alone with a middle-loud drummer?
Just ordered a 212 slim+ from John. Carbon fiber cabinets are the future!
The jump from the 1st cab to the second was quite evident in low end articulation, clean headroom, clarity and responsiveness across the entire frequency range.. At least to my ear & though my headphones (as well as possible, or even probable subjective taste bias). But regardless I wasn’t expecting that distinctive a contrast..
Jump to like-for-like comparison tones:
6:23 for the AT Slim 700W
7:46 for the AT Slim+ 900W
I ordered a 2×10 last spring. Right out of the box it shakes and trembles like crazy and keeps a resonance noise. Not sure what the problem is. Taking it back to get checked
Hey John, looks like you still haven't cleaned your lens, there's a spec of dust right in the middle of the frame, about 1/6 from the top. It's there since the Z3 video, it drove me nuts trying to clean my screen
We'll be talking about those GR Bass amps.
What would you recommend to replace a 410HLF Ampeg? I’d like to find something smaller and lighter!
Oh this is very cool. I've been interested in GR for a while now. Been particularly interested in something like the Pure amp. I'd love to see a demo of that with a nice EQ or preamp pedal, maybe like the Bergantino pre!
