Thats different……… A total jam solo without rests. Great musicians
Terry could indeed be the inspiration for the line “play a the guitar like a- ringing a bell” he is Johnny B. Goode ❤
Freebird – 7/2/1977 starting at 06:22… listen to Allen Collins, while using only his guitar, explain why choosing between being loved or being free is a difficult choice to make.
Terry Kath had a phenomenal playing ability, no doubt about it…but "the greatest guitar solo ever caught on film" is subjective…just saying.
Pretty good solo on 25 or 6 to 4, I believe. May I suggest you check out Alvin Lee of Ten Years After on the live double album? Good Morning Little Schoolgirl is the cut with the speediest solos. And the classic anthem I'm Going Home…better than the version at Woodstock.
He was very good 50+ years ago but that isn't the best guitar solo ever filmed. Not even close.
Kid Charlemange by Steely Dan guitar solo is still my no 1
Can't hold a candle to Gary Moore's "Separate Ways" solo. Not even close.
Amazing thanks for the video!
Wow! What an animal he was
Kath is absolutely scary here. Holy shit.
LOVE Terry Kath!
25 or 6 2 4! Bad ass! Dude was jamming!
That description is a bold statement to be sure, however, I'd be hard pressed to produce a better one off the top of my head. Terry was a beast! His ability to pour his soul out through his instrument the way he did was amazing enough to listen to, let alone watch.
just wow
Sloppy and in no way is that the best solo ever. Solid but not mind blowing
Yes, he was very aggressive and had some great pentatonic licks!
One of the greatest that a lot of people don't know.
Wahnsinnig gute Musik. Wieso gibt es das heute nicht mehr?
This isn't Comfortably Numb?!?
????
Excellent.
Jimmie Hendrix to him your better than me
I remember the day he died. It doesn't seem as though it was that long ago. He is and always will be one of my favorites.
Not bad, but it isn't the best ever sorry.
Not really, verbal diarrhea
Hendrix was asked, "How does it feel to be te best electric guitarist in the world", and he said, "I dont know. You'll have ask Terry Kath." He said the same thing about Rory Ghallager. Both of them WAY underrated, while Clapton and SRV are WAY OVER rated. But none of them could touch this:
Lift off begins at 3:30 an goes until 7:04. Buckle up.

I've seen Kath play close up Live when he was with Chicago Transit Authority in '69.
Great for his day but it's a dated very stiff style compared to the incredibly fast shredders and really innovative players of today.
The Guitar world now is so superior!
Chicago never sounded the same after Terry. R.I.P. ????
Yup
Jimi Hendrix thought he was better than him. Quote is out there.
Not even attempting to recreate the solo on the original record. Just opening that direct conduit from the right side of his brain to his fingers (and foot!). This is how it's done, kids…
Wow!
I would not commit to calling it #1, but I would say it is in the top 3. The other two are David Gilmore doing Comfortably Nimb, and the other is Prince doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
Undoubtedly the 2nd greatest guitar solo caught on film with the first being Prince on While my guitar gently weeps during the tribute to George concert
I guess you never head Alvin Lee at Woodstock?
Terry Kath was amazing!
I can’t get enough of this.
Yep. That was gorgeous. Thanks for posting.
I saw all 3 bands, Chicago Transit Authority, CTA and Chicago…They were ALL great, but after Terry passed, they were never the same!…Just sayin'!
Early Chicago was so amazing
Terrible day we lost that guy! I still lose it when I see him remember in documentary, Chicago was never the same band!
You never heard of Maggot Brain. Search it.
Neil bishop was better
Some people considered them just a horn band. Talk about no clue about music.
