  • Great review Sir, I’ve just picked a second hand LL36 up. Any recommendations for the best pickup system to install for this particular guitar?

  • I have a FG9M and was considering adding either this or an FG9R. I went with an LL36 despite preferring the minimalist FG look and damn I’m glad I did. Let me say this, it is not gaudy in person (my only concern). More importantly, the LL36 is a completely different playing guitar to the FG9 with an incredible tonality unique to it. The FG9 is louder, has more clarity and more dynamic range (applies to both models not just the M I have). The LL36 is sweeter, more immediately responsive and in my opinion has an even more comfortable neck and better string spacing (slightly narrower string spacing than the FG9, both have a 1 3/4 nut width though). There is no way I’ll part with either one and I don’t think I could say which is “better”. They are both top tier incredible instruments.

  • Hi John! Is the neck shape on the LL16 the same as the LL36? I just bought a LL16D and it really blew me away. What an awsome instrument. This must be the best buy for that price. The only thing I've done is that swapped the saddle and nut to bone and swapped the piezo pickup to the L. R. Baggs Lyric. The sound changed and it sound more like a LL26. I think the sound of my Yamaha LL16D sound better than a Martin D28.

  • It’s interesting also that Yamaha hasn’t gone to the Adirondack craze on these models

  • So much better than a Martin HD28! Different sound… Englewood spruce…. May not be as much of a cannon top as some other types but such nuance

  • I recently played one of these alongside an FG9M and loved both for different reasons. I ordered the FG9, but now I'm on a mission to pick up an LL36. These handmade Yamahas absolutely deserve a seat at the table.

  • Thank you for the reviews of these L series guitars! – I came upon this video after stumbling upon a used LJ36 at a Guitar Center and ended up purchasing it. I was trying to look up information on upgrading the bridge pins and was wondering if you had a recommendation on replacement bridge pins that don’t require any modification to fit this guitar.

  • Love the japanese made Yamaha's…I love my Egyptian CPX15…amazing japanese made guitar….hate their customer service these days. The Chinese guitars are no where near the Japanese ones….you need to play them if you consider chinese…like a LL-16. I've seen great and dogs! I have a LL-16 dog that I refretted with stainless and level the fingerboard. It's now a monster after spending a month on it. If you couldn't do the work you would go broke fixing them. Remember…if it's chinese…you better play it….Japanese you should be alright site unseen. I'd never buy a Martin D-45 site unseen!

  • Great video and I have a 1993 LL23 made by legendary developer Fumio Naruse which is phenomenal and I did indeed purchase the LL36 yesterday and hope to get a Boucher eventually.

  • Just bought a LL36 last week. Every bit as good as you described! Thanks for the review. The 36 is my fourth Yamaha. At age 69, this is my last one, well almost as I have a mahogany top and cocobolo rear and sides coming from a luthier in Honduras.

  • Thanks for the video! Enjoying they indepth reviews. Fortunite to have a couple yamaha's. Yamaha should do better at advertising and promotion of there guitars but wow such a good value now part of me hopes to buy another before they do that.

  • Great review Sweetwater has them in stock. How would you advise getting a pickup or amplification for this guitar?

  • I have an FGX-830C. Obviously not a comparison but when I beat on it, it sounds better by the day, and gentle playing here and there, she does not sound the same.

  • Thank you for all of your informative videos. You brought me back to Yamaha.
I love your playing. You bring out everything in a guitar that it can give.
I’m thinking LL36 or LL56. I don’t have a guitar shop to try these out here in Thailand where I live , so I am going by your review. 56 just might be too much money. Thanks again.

  • That statement of putting it up against any acoustic guitar ever made was exactly what I was thinking about when you said it, it is possibly the richest sounding guitar I've heard.

  • Careful there dixie land is a out lawed tune. Not politicaly correct. But i shure as hell love it.

  • I wish for the top of the line LL series, headquarters would permit a custom perhaps cursive, headstock name. Semper Fi

  • Hi there, could anyone please let me know with a reply what is the difference between a LS 36 and a LL 36 ? Many thanks for a reply. ????????????

  • Your playing is extraordinary and yes the tone and musical shapes that guitar produces is unbelievable. I have played some great Yamahas over the years. Not to the extent you have but always amazes me how people think of yamaha as low grade.

  • How do you compare the Yamaha LL36 vs the Yairi DYM60HD? They’re about the same price and are both difficult to find so I’d have to buy them on-line sight unseen. You raved about both in your reviews and you’re the only person I can find that’s played both of them. I’d be grateful for your thoughts comparing them.

  • I remember in college, one of my friends (who got me started on playing) was an international student from spain, and his mother's side came from luthiers of classical guitars, and he told a story of he was at the meeting with his uncle and the best luthiers in Spain, only his uncle admitted that the best Yamaha classicals and flamenco guitars were louder than the Spanish made ones, and kept the tone, and they should learn from them. The other luthiers said Yamaha team was being tainted as they made "American Cowboy guitars." and they would be the laughingstock of the flamenco and classical world. The snobbery still goes on, but the classical /flamenco players that know good guitars will say hand made Yamaha is one of the best.

Plus if you name all the top classical guitar luthiers to the average person off the street, they'll won't know who they are until you say Yamaha.
