  • Hey Mike! I just moved to a new town and I am looking to get a job at one of the local guitar shops. I know the answer to this question will likely depend on which shop I decide to work at, but I was wondering if you have any general advice on what skills I should have or need to have for the job, and if there is anything I can do to better my chances at working there. Keep the awesome videos up! I'm excited to check out your EP 🙂

  • +mikeyb1335 Regarding your question . . . I, too, recently purchased a Squier CV Tele, and it's really a nice guitar (only had to make one mod to correct a tuning issue). I also have a new Fender Modern Player Mustang, a really beautiful, well-made guitar with P-90 pickups and available for about the same price as the Squier Tele. Though similar, these two guitars are also very different in some significant ways. I have to say, both these guitars spoke to me (personally), they're great players, and they each have a special place in my small arsenal of instruments. You know, once I bought my first guitar I never thought I'd buy another. But, as the fates would have it, my semi-hollow led to an acoustic, and the acoustic led to the Mustang, and the Mustang led to the Tele, and then the Tele led to a Gretsch. Each one is "perfect" in its own way. Good luck!

  • Hey Mike. Greetings from NZ. What's up with that Rabbit picture? Also, what's your diet like? Do you indulge in the 'rock n roll lifestyle'? Doesn't look like you ever eaten a chip let alone a deep fried Mars Bar or drink 8 pints a night 🙂

  • If you get aproached to review a product why dont you take up the offer but stipulate that you will review the product honestly and that you will call it out if its crap and if they dont like that then to bad so sad. Theres nothing wrong with that you have nothing to lose everything to gain. You might score lots of free stuff. I wouldnt hold that against you.

  • I learnt all my modes in grade 12 and now I have forgotten all but aeolian and Ionian ????

Going to study music at university next year so it would be extremely helpful if you went over all the modes and over what kinds of progressions you would use them 🙂

  • Hello Mike , thank you for the tips and all the advice you have given us . You have helped me improve a lot .
Here's my question : What do you think about playing different genre's , and by playing I mean , practising and playing in gigs. I enjoy listening to all genre's and I feel like exploring all of them .Does it help you to develop as a musician and a guitarist ? Or , should a guitarist stick to a particular genre and develop only in that area . I hope you understood my question.

  • Ha. "Tom" the drummer! Let him get under your skin. Stick with him. Let him be a symbol of your love for your EP etc… but please don't end up hitting his rim. That's the key

  • Hello Mike! Great advice on modes! The adding the 2 extra notes to the pentatonic scale to create a mode is much clearer then most explanations concerning this subject- most tutorials will use the starting on a different note from the major scale which can be very confusing so props to you mate! And yes, a full video on modes would be sweet! Thanks for all your entertaining videos and be well mate!

  • haha Mike, i do hope you didnt think i was being rude! i was genuinely interested, cause some people's ethic really is just get as much exposure as you can and take all work you get. love your videos dude, and a lot of the reason for that is you come across as really genuine at all times. keep up the good work man

  • WOW. your improvisation on these modes sounds fantastic and so sophisticated, it adds a great dimension to the pentatonic scale. Great stuff. I hope you put some of that on your EP. playing a little bit with those modes.

  • I love playing those Eric Johnson displaced triads. It can make a chord sound so different, depending on the string spacing
