Headrush Flex Prime – The Evolution Of Amp Cloning?

In this video, James takes a look at the new Flex Prime from Headrush. This little all-in-one modeller, effects processor, and amp clone player is a powerhouse of tone. Pair it with the new Headrush Amp Cloner software and the latest version of the ReValver, and you will have a mighty trio of guitar processing tools that can make your Les Paul sing, or your Strat cut glass.
Oh, and just one more thing, the Super Clone.
What Headrush say: ReValver Amp Cloner’s proprietary SuperClone functionality is the end of limited “snapshot” amp captures. Every other cloning/profiling solution captures a single view of the amp’s current settings which ultimately falls apart when you attempt to adjust the gain or drive setting on the capture.Amp Clone’s SuperClone functionality allows the user to combine multiple clones into a SuperClone, with the Amp Cloner Player’s Gain knob seamlessly morphing between clones and retaining the integrity of the source gear. Now clones become actual amp/pedal models. You can even take SuperClones to the next level by combining clones from different amps.Imagine an amp model that morphs from a Twin Reverb to a JCM800 to a Soldano – the sky’s the limit!

After a brief overview of the new Headrush Flex Prime hardware, James takes you on a full Cloning experience tour ending with creating a SuperClone of his Red Plate HD50R head.

It’s a long video, so grab a “cupper” or a beer and get cosy. You won’t want to miss this.

  • Some of the effects are OK but most of the amplifiers sound nothing like the real thing

  • Ordered mine, it comes tomorrow, shame they couldn't have put a rechargeable battery in there as well., still I'm from Yorkshire and we like a lot for our money up here.

  • Good review but I've looked everywhere online and I cannot find a full list of all the built in amps and fxs in this thing. Is it some kind of secret?

  • This is not evolution or a game changer. Head rush is treating there users like garbage they think people are going to upgrade a whole new unit every few years like a i phone. Headrush needs to make a statement on why this is… if your new to this head rush world be ready to get upset just saying…

  • I was literally just about to buy an MX five because I keep finding them for cheap. This makes more sense. Is it worth it or should I just get the MX five

  • Of course, I recently traded in my MX-5, tried the Helix LT (okay), swapped for the Boss GX-100 (solid effects, okay amps), but now I'm looking at this unit because it solves a few problems from the MX-5. There's zero doubt as to which is the easier interface to navigate visually, the browser based editor solves several problems, the on board large looper, practice, and built in bluetooth are all very welcome. Are the effects improved over the MX-5? Will you be selling amp models like you do for the Tonex? While I'd miss the extra buttons from the GX-100, all the other options from the Headrush are very enticing. And does it fix the fizzy nature of some of their older amp models? Thanks in advance for any responses!

  • idk about you guys but sometimes I take this for granted and I forget the genius it takes to create this technology.who ever started this im assuming a kemper guy is a freaking genius and those who keep making it better are also genius you are a genuis your are a genuis you all are genuis!!!! thank you!!!

  • Very salty playing there, James. Thanks for the great demo. I am very intrigued by this new gadget.

  • After reading all the commends on so many videos about how bad headrush are, discontinued products, etc… I think I will go with the Line 6 Helix. Great product, but not worth the price if they stop supporting after three years, or just use the same ReValve from amplitude, nothing new.

  • Good explanation. Comprehensive. Seems a good product in many ways. I would love to know more about its looping and practice functions – which seem quite unique.

  • Wow, your playing is great James, absolutely loved the Run Like Hell!
Deffo giving Paul a Run for his money.

  • Are you guys going to do clones for the the unit? I currently use tonex and the patches I use are exclusively TSR patches. ESP the matchless patches. I agree that the patches sound better than the QC. I have owned an MC5 and loved the interface but not the amp tones. This could be the unit for me if there are some tasty TSR clones available. Could the patches you made of the matchless be cloned since it will clone plugins?

  • Ah yes. Good ol' Paid Promotion to sell a crap brands product. Either you didn't know the company's history… or you didn't care, but it's a terrible look for a bunch of YouTubers that I'd otherwise respect. HeadRush doesn't fix the bugs that exist in the Hardware they've already sold you… they wait to fix it and sell you new Hardware… buyer beware.

  • These will not be a game changer in any way. Headrush has always fallen short. The ReValver technology literally sucks. I worked at Peavey when they bought the technology. They never did a thing with it. I had a Prime when they came out. Not good.

  • The greatest Advantage these headrush pedals have is that the volume knobs go up to 11 that's one more than 10

  • James absolutely awesome review. Great playing and well explained. Love the real time clone. I have not purchased a multi effect guitar item in years. I think this little guy might be the one.

  • The headrush core is more like the nanocortex or the ampero 2 stage, in which it can do the cloning without a computer. I haven't tried it myself so I can't speak much for the quality of the amp cloning, hopefully Leo Gibson will do a video on it.
Generally I'm very surprised of how the headrush people operate. They are basically buying IP and repurposing it, revalver and ACT are 10+ year old products from Peavey. ( I used to use revalver long time ago and loved it, btw)
The only 2 updates have been so far, adding Avid Eleven (ie: headrush) models to revalver and the super cloning. I wonder how much actually improvement to the ACT has been done in their ACT ver 2. That said there are many good ideas and capabilities on the headrush platform. I think there are a few things that would make the interaction smoother. I'm a software engineer and I know they could easily make it possible to upload the rigs/clones via the web based editor (great idea).
The ability to clone a plugin is what I've been looking for and suggesting to the Tonex team (so yeah). The superclone is also a great idea. So there are definitely some people thinking about new ways to use their current technology. I just hope there are also people updating their tech, because the sound quality is not great

  • Really good and transparent explaination of the cloning and supercloning thing. Very underdtandable because it is new stuff.

  • Fantastic James Great Playing nearly as good as Paul : ) Will there be some Studio Rats AMP clone packs coming soon ?

  • Nice stuff… but the ReValver brand seems an odd choice. I remember ReValver back when it was a Peavey product (around the time of Amplitube 2/3 I think) a long long time ago. The RIR/RIR2/ACT stuff was being used back then… looks like Headrush bought the technology and have not changed many parts of it. The 'superclone' idea is novel… but I guess a high 'model' approach from say a Line 6 could give better results. Interesting product though, just not how well it will compete.
