  • Oh boy,I feel you! I had a similar surgery couple years ago, operation went well, but I had to keep my shoulder immobilised for more than 3 weeks. Also, the shoulder got stiff immediately, so it had to be remobilised very carefully by the help of a special contraption that moved my arm up and down very gently. The first month after surgery was utterly painful though, even the strong medication didn't help at times! Never experienced such massive pain before!
I was told that it could take up to a year until full recovery, but I'm happy to report that I was almost back to normal after roughly 4 months, and my shoulder is now better than it was before.
So hang in there, you'll be up and running in no time!
Luckily the accident happened during summer holiday, so by the time school started, I could get back to teaching guitar.

But you know what was an "interesting" experience? Being right handed with my right arm out of order, it get's really hard to wipe your bum or brush your teeth, both things that feel utterly awkward with you non-dominant hand! 🙂

  • Hope you recover soon Scott, don't rush it and do it right. We'll still be here. Kids – look after him! Flight of the Navigator – awesome film! And Please, please, please – try and get an interview with Colin Hodgkinson! Such a great guy with some awesome stories, amazing career, and one of the reasons I started to play bass back in the late 70's.

  • Wishing you a fast recovery Scott. You are very lucky it wasn't your shoulder on the fretting side! That would affect you a lot more.

  • Please talk to Anna Butterss. They are in LA, and they've been blowing up. Anna plays both Jazz and rock (Jason Isbell, Pheobe Bridgers, Boygenius). Really great player and composer. They play both upright and electric. Flea loves them. They hang out with Meshell Ndegocello.

  • Hey man, just LET YOUR SHOULDER TAKE THE TIME IT NEEDS TO HEAL.. That is : wait before you start playing with your forearm and fingers that your arm and shoulder are FINE AND PROTECTED. And then take it very very easy. If it f**** has to take those 6 or even 12 months then you just do it and wait for that moment.. We love you, you are making a fabulous contribution and now it is our turn to pay you back and grant you the time you need. You deserve it – and WE'LL WAIT. A big hug on your other shoulder, Scott ????!

  • I had my shoulder rebuilt a number of years ago after an A/C injury.

Mine was the result of a collapsed scrum.

Listen to the doctors & physios. It took me 6 months to fully recover and I've got back 99% of the movement back.
