Clipping them seems to be incredibly wasteful. You can use them temporarily if you break one in the future.
Didn't change my strings for 15 months until I realized I had to
I wear safety goggles non stop as they make me look cool and I get a speed boost of ten percent, just saying.
How come there is no process for 5 strings?
What? You can change just the strings??? Man that's way cheaper than changing the whole instrument like I did. 11 times.
What if we don't have the holes in the back?
Should really check your intonation, string height and neck relief when you change strings.
make sure you don’t cut the 100/E string before it tapers down to a smaller gauge otherwise it might not fit into the machine head, just wasted £20 on a set of strings because there was no mention of this, cheers fender (btw it was longer than 2 machine heads down the string on a squier bronco) ????
thank you
I thought it was Phil Anselmo showing how to change bass strings lol
Should start with the thinnest string, but that's more to preference.
String guide? Seeing the thickness isn't good enough?
Trimming is for the lazy.
Sorry but that was a sloppy bass winding, especially on the E and A strings.
Wow wayyy too many people here are claiming a funking bass neck cant handle getting the strings taken off. Yall have never been to a metal show
didnt use string oil
Me without a bass: interesting ????
When I first got my bass I wanted to tune it and my E String SNAPPED!!! I actually managed to break my E String within the first 10 minutes i had my bass…
Had to look up cause it’s been so long since I changed string
Years ago, there were tuning machines which were attached to the machine head – the curly wooden bit at the end of the neck. Now people call the tuning machines the machine heads. WTF, guys. Deep Purple’s album “machine head” had a picture of a bass guitar machine head with 4 tuning machines on it. The English language is supposed to evolve, not devolve.
Nah those old strings still had 5 to 10 years left in em!
The best part about this bass is instead of the strings flopping all over it’s firmly secure while you put the string on.
This is really confusing.. ????I got the strings off like you showed, but now I can't play that little riff at 1:15 – will the strings work properly if I play that after I've finished restringing?
Wasn't going to comment, but I saw 666 comments!? Nope!!
I just bought a used Vntera Pbass. When I went to tune it, raising the pitch required me to turn the tuning key CW, which is opposite of the way the tuners hacve worked on the other dozens of guitars/basses I have owned. I asked the seller if the bass had left handed tuners on it. He replied that Fender strings their basses that way and that I could switch direction if I wanted to. How can I do that and still keep the strings to the inside of the Post? Thanks.
Why clip them when you can put them in your junk drawer for 5 years till you throw them out.
I've spent about an hour trying to restring my bass. When you feed the string in you need to wind it around clockwise. I was going anticlockwise and nothing was happening! Finally.
thanks.
I watched another video and he said to only change one string at a time so that the neck doesn't lose its position. This video makes it seem that might not be necessary?
Change…..bass strings? I'm supposed to do that??
You're doing it wrong for the poor musicians and the rich ones don't need to learn to change their own strings.
DON'T USE CUTTERS BROTHERS, SAVE YOUR OLD STRINGS SO YOU CAN REPLACE BROKEN ONES UNTIL IT'S TIME TO CHANGE THE WHOLE SET!
The strings would have to be pretty dang bad for me to toss them. I put the old ones back in the bag the new ones came in. Comes in handy if you have a string break at a show. Is that perfect? Heck no, but it will get you through. If you're too broke to buy new ones, you can do the detune and pop and stretch method to bring a little life back into them. What that does is knock the dirt out of the windings. I do it even when I'm not changing strings. This works on guitar too, but just the wound strings. Fortunately all bass strings are wound in wound sets…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bcf32-iSFg
So you managed to use a bass wth two pretty unusual sting securing solutions
Fun fact: you shouldn’t always cut the strings. I clipped the strings like he said but now the gauge is to big to fit the machine head…
This guy owes me a set of strings.
Bass player huh ?? Everyone I know would have held on to those old ones for an emergency lol lol not clipped them off like they meant nothing !
A few days ago I had a spare of bass strings from my sister. I took out the e string but I forgot I don’t have a new string for that. So then I went to buy new strings, and when I accidentally cut the string too short somehow. While I was trying to tune it, it broke. What a waste of money. The leftover of the string is stuck in the tuning heads. I hate that it’s so expensive just to buy a new one. F these instrument companies making these so hard to repair them because this shitty corporate consumerist based culture. Why can’t they just make it short enough already in the packaging?
just had my A string snap on me. This helped a lot, thank you!
just got a bass as a gift 2 days later I broke it by tuning it too high and braking the strings had spear strings so thanks
Thank you for sharing this video, much appreciated!
Is there a way to take them off without having to clip them?
Put old strings in pan of boiling water for 10 minutes. Makes them sound almost new again.
I am a beginner and skip step because you don’t have to do it on your guitar doesn’t help me learn anything. Teaching is usually over all. Not what you just want to teach. Teachers should inspire not hamper those they are teaching
Thanks for the upload! The bass I got? Is older than me and my brother in law is the one who gave it to me said he restrung it when he got it and I said yeah it might be time for new strings I got Ernie ball brand super slinky strings and I wear eyeglasses so that does come in handy cause I also play guitar and I break strings a lot. Mine come thru the bottom thankfully one thing I don’t like about fender guitars is they do string thru the back my strat does that.
i dont like this vid it made me replace my string and it ended up being too short now i cant play anymore
Thanks you make my day +++
what problems one might have if winding string over the top of the peg? It seems to help holding the string? thanks for any info
Besties don’t be like me and cut your string two machine heads above… it’s most definitely not enough string
That's incorrect. You don't stick the string in the hole. You wrap it over the top and under the winding to prevent slippage, then cut off the excess string end.
