  • The ENGL-cabs are stupid thicc… I was looking at a 2×12", because "it's nice and compact but not just a single speaker" (I don't know, I just like the sound spread over multiple speakers better). And… well, I got a 2×12" already, exactly because it's not too huge for the limited space I have, plus the fact that I need to drag it up two flights of stairs, AND it's about 23kgs I believe, BUT, it's a cheaper Marshall-cab with Seventy 80s, which are all lighter. – Then I looked at the specifications of a 2×12" ENGL… It's 35kgs, more than 10 kilos more (and weirdly almost the same size). Look, I'm not that big and dragging one cabinet up stairs by myself was enough with 23 kilos. I'm lucky that these things have the handles they have built into them. – It's somewhat unfortunate, but I'm gonna have to go with a 1×12" for an ENGL one with all that wood they fold into it somehow. Reading the spec-sheet and finding that it's more like 20 kilos, slightly lighter than the Marshall I mentioned, is kind of a relief ahead of even purchasing the thing. – And remember, it's dragging it by one arm and also that kind of volume, this stupid block of wood with metal inside, up the awkward invention that is the stairs. – To think I also still have a CRT sitting around on ground floor that needs to go upstairs, is around the same weight, but doesn't have any handles. I think Imma sell that one again…

  • All cabs should have the same speakers, the Marshall 1960 sound awful compared with all the vintages 30. And it could be cool to hear the cab A after the cab E to compare it well since A is the first to listen and we have no previous cab to compare. Good work thou!

  • Like the mesa oversize then the engl best. Ill probably buy an engl xxl now. Thanks for the comparison.

  • A or D But I'm confused if they all have the same speakers why do you get to pick the speakers selectable option ?

  • I couldn't really decide which I liked best. I could tell the one I like least. Shockingly the one I liked least was the Mesa Oversize. I wouldn't have guess that. My cabs are a Marshall 1960B and a Friedman BE 412. I really like the 2 V30 and 2 Greenbacks in the Friedman cab. Funny enough, my Marshall JCM800 sounds better with the Friedman cab, and my Friedman BE 100 Deluxe sounds better with my Marshall cab. I have my Marshall cab loaded with 2 Celestion G12H-75 Creambacks and 2 V30s.

  • I chose C and E. I'd love to see a comparison between the EVH 5150lll 2×12 and the Mesa Boogie 2×12, I plat a Marshall DSL40 and a EVH 5150 6L6 and definitely prefer the Marshall, I'm contemplating trying a different cab for the EVH?

  • I like a deeper tone. So, Engl pro, meas oversize then marshall 1960. Not the vintage .

  • WOW !! How awful was B amiright?!?!?!?
I personally blend a Mesa with an Orange, I have a Marshall that I never use at all. So this test is legit m/

  • A, C, E (E might have to boost of lows a little on amp) blown away was about to go build my own 1×12 for my Celestion G12-30 but now I don't think I'm qualified. Damn what a difference!

  • Glen, can you please review some frfr cabinets? I'm having a very hard time determining what powered cab solution to use to monitor a helix floor rig. Options are the line 6 power cab 1×12, the head rush 1×12 or plug the helix into a Mesa power amp into a 2×12 guitsr cabinet.

  • Glenn, in the context of home studio recording use only (not ever used in a live setting)… if I want to have aollection of speakers to quickly/easily work with (and want to be able to compare in semi-isolation), am I better off getting a 4×12 cab with 4 different speakers, 2 2×12 cabs with 4 different speakers, or 4 1×12 cabs with 4 different speakers? Logistically speaking, it seems like collecting different speakers with their own 1×12 cabinet gives me lots of flexibility and ease of use. But, every video I ever see from recording people on YouTube, such as yourself, seem to almost exclusively feature 4x12s. Are 4x12s always superior when it comes recording?

  • It's always kind of a conundrum trying to explain what things sound like LOL but I thought cabs: A C & D sounded more musical, full, and present. cabs B and E? while they didn't sound terrible they had more of that airy drab far away sound that I personally don't like. I mean if you're going for an airy sound you want to really go for it! as an effect to sprinkle in here and there but I would never want it to sound noticeably airy through the whole song LOL

  • I like a 4×12 1980's slant marshal cab.
I also use 2x 1300W Mackie Thumps in case of surprise attack by a drummer.

  • I plan on getting a Soldano cabinet but I don't know what size I should get. I'm looking to get a more high clean/Bright tone like Randy Rhoads. (And since Altec Speakers no longer exist I figure Soldano's are the best thing)
