Could somebody help with a Problem that i currently have? I have an Yamaha E432 and I use a FC05 Yamaha Pedal. I wanted to play Piano after a long time but now the Pedal just doesn't work anymore even tho I never changed anything on the Piano nor the Pedal. Appreciate your Ideas…????
Good video.
Do you have any advice how to cure a squeaky Stagg Universal Pedal? The squeak interferes with recordings.
Many controllers and keyboards now will auto-detect polarity by sampling the pedal state when the keyboard is turned on and assuming that to be the "off" state. Tip: if you plug in a pedal and it turns out to be the wrong polarity, you can try turning the keyboard / controller off and on to see if it picks up the correct polarity.
In other controllers/keyboards this may be a setting that is controlled either on the device or in software. Check the manual for your device as it should be described in there.
That said, buying a pedal that is switchable will remove any concern about being able to use it on any device including controllers or keyboards that do not include such a setting or autodetection.
it is not working on my psr-sx700
will it even work if I press it down before oning it
thanks for the quick vid!
Where do you plug the pedal in the back of the keyboard . Have 4 holes ?? Got a casio WK 200
Please tell me which is the best….
Thanks for this video Reuben but I need your help right now. I already had a piano style sustain pedal for my previous keyboard and when i bought my new piano (yamaha p125) I got another pedal with it (a footswitch style-yamaha fc5) and now im wondering upon whether i should use that piano style sustain pedal or the sustain footswitch that came with my piano. What's your opinion?
Thank you! Very useful!
Thank you. Reuben. Video was very informative.
Thanks for the demo. FYI for anyone thinking if m-audio EX-P expression pedal or even any sustain pedal with trs jack will work on novation launchkey series, it does not. I have tried it and it doesn't work..neither do any pedals that have a TRS jack. Novation support mentioned the launchkey works with a regular non TRS jack input. Hope this helps someone . Cheers.
Very good and helpful information. But it kinda sounds like you downgraded a Casio product. Now I use a homemade sustain pedal (made with wood, metal, cable jack and a bit of God's love????). This basically has no polarity switch and very little weight. But what I do is that for the polarity, I press down the pedal before plugging it in. And also for the weight I either taped the end of the wire close to the pedal to the ground, or I put something quite heavy on the wire. Once again this is no criticism but a humble opinion.
thank you very much that was really helpful !
What pedal is to be used for Yamaha 61keyboard piano?
Can you connect it to a guitar?
Thank You.
Thank you for the quick and informative video. I'm now more informed than before watching this.

I do encounter sustain pedal in reverse mode.
Your vids triggered me to look for the switch, and then on the manual, and look what I’d found; Yamaha’s sustain pedal can be switched back and forth by software!
Many thanks, been searching for "what does a damper pedal do on a piano?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of – Danilliam Illustrious Dominance – (do a google search ) ? It is a smashing one off product for unlocking the secret to master the piano fast without the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my neighbour got cool success with it.
Just wonderful, been searching for "what are the 3 piano pedals for?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across – Danilliam Illustrious Dominance – (do a search on google ) ? It is a good exclusive guide for discovering how to learning piano fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cousin got cool success with it.

Hi, what do you think of the Nektar sustain pedal xD
Thanksssss!!!!
Hey could you answer my following question in chase you know an answer:
Does every pedal or pedal unit work with every keyboard/digital piano? I am currently looking for a pedal unit that is rather cheap, and with casio i think i am on the wrong track here. Can i just buy another brand instead?
This is very helpful. Thanks
Thank you, Reuben! This was very helpful!
Let me clarify something: there's no actual polarity in these pedals. They just open or close the circuit, so the switch is to select "normal open" (N.O.) or "normal closed" (N.C.). Nothing is positive or negative here. You just switch between having both terminals open or closed by default (unpressed).
Update: however, everywhere this is indeed called polarity switch, as it refers to two opposite behaviors. Apparently, this usage is acceptable though.
thank you alot!!
