  • 10:58 for international viewers he's in a practice cricket net, not in solitary on weekend detention.

  • Shane, one my fave videos you ever did was the jam night docu at the green table. I gather you don't live in Melbourne anymore, but that video was a decade ago, how about an update on how to navigate jams in the 2020s, especially if you are new to a town/place? You must have learned a lot in the dacade since that video was made. cheers

  • I don’t comment much on YT but thought you deserve kudos for doing this type of video. So much of online guitar stuff is look at this, buy this, you need this but it is not true. You don’t need all this stuff to sound good. I hears Larry Carlton comment that back in the day they had 3 choices; Fender, Vox or Marshall and for guitars is was Fender or Gibson. Still, tons of great music was made because people understood how to use the gear they had. Kudos.

  • Thank you Shane! That was some of the most practical and useful advice that I have ever heard! I've been playing guitar for about 10 years, but it's only recently that I have begun REALLY working on my foundational skills and working very seriously on my technique rather that just learning a song as fast as I can, What a great podcast, thank you so much ????????

  • I just picked up a red stripe peavey bandit after years of watching you and its still blowing my mind how good it sounds with my tele. Awsome recommendation dude.

  • God, I had that Robert Cray album on cassette. “Too many cooks” was a standout tune.
I think doing open mics is a good idea also, I DI my pedals straight into the mixing desk and always get compliments about my tone, even though there’s no amp. Obviously keep the overdrive to a minimum in those environments and stick to a mainly clean tone.

  • The scenery is fantastic, however, to talk about tones, I think you should be in the studio, actually showing the tones. Maybe edit in scenes of the fantastic landscape.

  • Thanks for the tips. I find dialing in a good blues tone so much more challenging than dialing in a rock tone.

  • Yep! Working on your playing and technique is the biggest hurdle. I like your discussion on dialing in the amp for different rooms….but I also tweak those controls for different guitars!

  • Thanks Shane. I do wish I knew all this many years ago ..lol… But we are never too old to learn. I'm going to bookmark this one. And I love the outdoor vids!

  • Great video for beginners because most do not understand tone and amplifiers. Every kid should watch this. Great job, Shane.

  • As far as woodshedding, get a membership from Texas Blues Alley and go directly to the Little Wing Deep Dive lesson. It’s a masterclass in learning both Jimi’s and SRV’s version of the song and a great way to learn music theory! Sorry about the advertisement but I really believe that one can learn so much from one song!!????????????????????????????????

  • Buy a 2ch amp, buy a guitar you ergonomically like with hss, buy an affordable but quality multi fx.

Even for starter gear, consider it keepers for later purpose.

Never buy anything because it is cheap.

  • I've had a Kustom 36 amp, candy apple red sparkle rolled vinyl cover. This amp was so loud I could only turn it up 1.5 in the house. Could be heard 2 house away. I loved it. Bought used for $275 US $. The amp my Wife told me to never sell is a Fender Princeton Chorus 100 watt made in California SOLID STATE bought in 1992. Its the best. Love the outside podcast. Keep it up.

  • This is really valuable , thank you. I'm back and it's great to see this. I've been playing acoustics while I was away and I need to get a very simple but effective Blues rig for acoustic. I know it's not your thing but any ideas will be much appreciated. Keep on rocking man.

  • Licks are old music. You should try to play a new melody for every chorus. The melody should align with talking/singing. Your gear is not that important. Its your ability to express feelings, that people hear.
