  • I really wanna pick up on your insights but I just can’t sit through your vids. Could you tone down the act a bit maybe? Would help a lot. Thnx

  • I learned all the major scale modes through the caged system so I know how to play them in any key anywhere on the fretboard but don’t know any of the actual mode names, is that bad? Or does it not matter as long as I know where to find them?

  • Three notes per string is easier to visualize for my students and for me when I was younger and also lends itself to techniques that do well when you're trying to play fast

  • Learning and understanding the caged system is also a good thing to do for every self improvising guitarist in my opinion

  • Maybe not as popular, but the caged system helped me a lot with learning all positions of the ionian/aelion scales (which made transition to other modal scales that much easier).. they all connect and are based off of chord shapes which ascend and descend the neck. For me it made it easy to memorize scale shapes just by pairing with a chord shape.

  • Learning the Phrygian mode helped me so much. It sounds great, it feels better to play than ionian major, more similar to pentatonic actually. Amazing for metal. Melodeath riffs in Phrygian sound amazing

  • But isn't that the D major pentatonic??

Coz the looks like a b minor / d major depending on root emphasis

    Correct me if I'm p
    Wrong.

  • Sequences- I practice 17 different melodic Sequences within each pentatonic pattern. It makes improvisation easy.

  • … I just shred with a wash pedal. I don’t use scales and stuff I just play a bunch of notes, bend a bunch of Nate’s, and make the guitar say WOW with a lot of distortion

  • I began adding this run to my practice routine and quickly learned the "feel" of a key by ear.

Another thing that helped me a ton was finding every major scale as low as possible on the fret board and ran this exercise (e.g. C major, then do all modes from there). It shows how much the B string really fucks everything up lol

  • I hate that every advice you give would directly benifet my guitar playing and would objectively make me a better player. But damn bruh
