That first sound example sounded just awesome! Great video!
I've heard the advice often enough but I'm realizing I have a bias against doubling. I've subscribed somewhat to the idea from counterpoint that it's kind of wasteful or lazy from a harmonic standpoint to have even parallel motion between two or more instruments (power chords and piano octaves excepted). It definitely seems that way when a vocalist follows a solo instrument's melody in lock step. One of these years, I'll get over it and keep my producer hat firmly nailed into place ????.
The examples provided here are definitely working.
As a long time guitar player, I'm offended by the idea that my guitar tone should be 'fixed' with a synthesizer ????.
As someone who's been studying sound design and production more recently, I'm intrigued ???? .
hey SPP! as someone who’s just starting on learning a DAW like reaper, i noticed that all DAW/producer YouTubers always have an assortment of plugins they can use, do you think you’ll have recommendations for free plugins? or should people just spend?
One cool thing you can do to make a wall of guitars sound fuller is to layer in a clean piano an octave down playing the root notes. The part shouldn't be rhythmic either. It's just a single root note held out over each new chord change.
I've been trying to deal with how to mix having a lead synth and lead guitar at the same time, while also trying to make each on better. Can't believe I didn't think to just have them play the same thing once in a while
I still use the classic bells under my lead guitar melodies.
Unfortunately I don't have a synth, but I achieved something like the pad effect for filling out my rhythm guitars by using a reverb pedal and going full wet on the output to create an ethereal drone sound. Playing single notes with the chords seems to give pretty cool results.
Hypothetically… if you wanted to do this live, maybe use a synth pedal with a split signal blend?
is it just me or is this basically just adding ambience in the mix
ik it's two different things but they sound the same in terms of how it affects the mix to me
Great video as always!
in circles ????
Yeah, I'm just playing guitar, not half a band by myself. Synth recommendation is kinda crap. Oh, and my pedal chain produces exactly the sound I desire.
Also, you sound British. I don't take advice from those losers. Way to riddle the history books with shit performances.
The example at 0:50 sounds just like the outro to “Pieces of You” by nothing, nowhere.
Thing is you have to spend time worrying the parts. Too much work for me, unless you’re actually recording an album
is that pieces of you riff?
I just got a Boss SY-1 pedal that does this same thing! ???? You can set it as a lead synth to emulate a synth that matches the riff you play on guitar to get that doubling effect or you can set it to a pad and use the pedal as a hold to get an ambient synth sound
