  • Hey! Pete Townshend here. I have to play this 'simple' but tricky piece at a benefit at UCLA in LA soon, and I have to say your tutorial nailed it for me. Now all I have to do is practice it for 50 hours. I'm playing with an orchestra and choir, all of whom will be top musicians, so this will hopefully see me through. Thanks! (I donated!!)

  • Love that you do this on your GS Mini…I have the same mahogany top…brilliant little couch guitar

  • Sounds to me (on the white album anyway) he's only "flicking" on the second pattern; just plucking upward on the 'g' (and somethings with the 'b') with his index finger on the first. No? Flicking on the first pattern sounds too scritchy to me, though you pull it off nicely.

  • That light brushing on the B and G strings is a lot harder to do consistently than people would think. You nailed it once again!!

  • Im coming back after 6 years! I first saw this video when i had only been playing guitar for a few months. Im now playing in a traveling band (although not the same style) Its crazy coming back to this after all that time haha. Especially at 3 a.m. Anyway thanks for this video! It brought back memories of when i first started playing. I was in the garage the day I tried to learn this on our old couch. Man! Thanks for this. Hope you have a blessed life

  • I played this picking only for years, but found this video not long after you first published it. I'm amazed Youtube is still so full of tutorials that miss nail strumming you teach at 4.10.

  • Yours is the ONLY version I've seen in which it's played correctly. 100%. I actually saw Paul I'm concert when he made the comment that everyone plays it wrong. Well your version is the exception!! You nailed it. Great job!!!

  • I was going to do a lesson on blackbird, but yours is so good that I don’t think there’s any point! Always excellent, Andy.

  • The G keeps ringing out while I play the song through. Is this supposed to happen or is the G being muted between chord changes? Sometimes the G overpowers everything else.

  • Nice playing. Paul actually uses a thumb upstroke in the strumming pattern. I have tried it … can't really do it after playing it the regular way for so many years … but I think that's why no one manages to sound like him on this song.

  • I needed a refresher. I learned that back in the 70s. You have a better way. Can you believe I did the stretch instead of using the high E when going up. I mean there's a big Duh.

  • Terrific lesson. The only guitarist I've seen & heard to date on YouTube (aside from Paul) who can actually properly play Blackbird. Hats off !
