It’s not pentatonic minor, it’s blues pentatonic minor, which has an extra augmented forth. The same scale used by black sabbath.
Good work. You missed the other essential ingredient. Tone. how he gets those sounds. You should break them down and show how they are done in super detail. Because they are very difficult to get right. The tones are Timmy C.
Killer!
Not a lot of love from you for Timmy C, disagree with you on this one Paul. He plays finger style, he slaps, he plays chords, he’s always experimenting and changing his sound/tone. He def doesn’t play softly, he wails away with his fingers, and his groove is absolutely insane. He also doesn’t mostly play at a slow tempo, what about RATM is slow?! Maybe a little on audioslave, as was the point. And the only 2 reasons he’s good is because of Brad Wilk & Tom Morello?! Yes him and Brad are one of the top rhythm duos in rock/heavy music. But you think Nikki Sixx, one of the most boring and unoriginal bass players is good? I’m confused. I love your videos and usually agree with you, but you couldn’t be more wrong this time. Do Troy Sanders next pls!!!
Best way to sound like Tim Commerford is to find a drummer who has a pocket like Brad and learn to play in and around it
Paul, what source did you use to determine that Tim Commerford has a light touch? I ask because Tim has previously stated that one of the most essential aspects of his tone is that he plays with an extremely hard touch, something he specifically focused on after learning about the technique from Geddy Lee. In fact, most of the legendary growl in Tim's tone has nothing to do with the amp, but rather is the natural growl from plucking EXTREMELY hard on fresh strings. This is evident because the growl is present in Tim's DI signal BEFORE it's patched into any pedals and amps.
Timmy C is a beast. I wish the best in beating his cancer
awesome and informative video, Buddy — you make good and objective statements. Well done !
Down rodeo has a riff that uses the major 3rd in f sharp
Awesome video as always. But I can't help but ask, you don't like Chris Cornell's voice?
Machi Rufino from Invisible (argentina)
That ad is not well timed.
what strings does tim use?
Rex brown pla
Man, you look like a senior brother of Nik Nocturnal 😀 Make a video together. Gonna be hilarious (and musically cool).
Could we get a video on Mudvayne's bassist, Ryan Martinie?
what a cool channel. watched at least 10 videos tonight. really well done 🙂
Tim's basslines are the glue that hold it all together, he enables Tom to go on his wacky solos, and when I picked up a bass to learn his lines I was amazed at how simple yet effective his stuff is. It falls apart without him.
Awesome video!
You should really consider giving Audioslave a spin.
Some of Timmy C's greatest work is within those songs and really feel your video suffers from the absence of them.
Hello, may I ask how you choose the bassists you are going to talk about? Like, you have to be "familiar" with or do you analise wether you know them or not? Im wondering because I would like to see a 'How to sound like' with Toshiya from Dir en Grey. Is that possible?
I think that he follows Morello is a myth. He created so many great leading bass lines, like most of Evil Empire and many Audioslave songs. In my opinion Morello does not really know what to play over those lines and chooses to play one chord or some noise, like in Testify, Without a Face or Roll Right.
He is the Bass ????epic Sound, epic Riffs
Carlos Dengler from Interpol, listen to The New, I think it's the most Carlos D bassline
Eric Avery of Jane's Addiction
Jack Bruce of Cream.
You just hit on all the reasons i love RATM and never realized. Such a great combo of Hip Hop, Funk, and Metal. The Sting Ray tone is iconic as well. Great work sir! ???? ???? ????
