People don't play the open strings for tone consistency. Tina, and you in the example you played, have no consistency issues. Therefore there's no reason except convention for you not to play open strings
Psycho Killer made me want to play bass. Weymouth and I share a birthday. Coincidence????
Pauloo!!! What is the bass in 4:45??? Does anyone know???
As a female bass player from the 70s she's so great, her bass lines are so sick, I mean listen to phyco killer, it's great
There is no point in criticising Weymouth's style or technique. However she got there, she definitely absolutely got there. Her bass line on "Once In a Lifetime" mesmerized me for years, and still does.
When I first started listening to TH, the bass line of each song is what really grabbed me. Didn’t hurt that she was cute also.
She's such a natural.
Interesting – same style I developed for myself, self-taught in the mid-70s. Still use it to this day.
Love the player analysis videos!!!!!
Imagine forming a new band and one of your first songs is Psycho Killer with that iconic bassline. Amazing
Very informative, thank you????????????????
Would love to see a comparison of Tina Weymouth and Laura Lee of Khruangbin. Similar that they started playing bass & very shortly we’re in bands that gained popularity.
I am a progger, so I did never get the thing with this band. Thanks a lot of explaining this to us. She seems like a very very good musician really. Some stuff needs to be explained to someone like me, classical schooled and a prog fan. I prefer prog before the classical arts even if I love Mozart and Paganini. But that's me. Not everyone will like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1_Ffdlk0Uc The Devil himself is in the centre of the Inn, close to the bar. He invested in Paganini in that film, and he is there to protect his interests. Paganini did play in many short and puncted notes at this video, well the actor did. If you did not see the film, it is easy to guess who isplaying the devil.
She seemed to use a Hofner 500/2 a lot.
Paul do Kiss of Death by Dokken.
Would like a video talking about Kim Gordon next!
Tina besto waifu
I never noticed they had a female bass player.
Great video once again Paul. Also if no one has suggested him Armistead Burwell Smith IV would make an interesting subject for a future video I think.
I was late to see and enjoy this! I have so many Bass player YouTube subscriptions! This channel is excellent education, and humorous! I will recommend "pertybass" channel. He is from the "middle east " and plays modern music unfamiliar to me, but always Interesting. Thank you very much for sharing!
Early on, she did that thing with her thumb on the low string, picking the other strings with her fingers. If you watch her doing this, she swings her elbow out to a completely different position for using the fingers. This looks awkward and would probably cause physical injury if repeated too much.
Oddly, as the band got deeper into using funk elements, she used the pick more. She never really adopted the Larry Graham thumb technique.
She really supercharged the sound of the band.
Bellissimo video! Grande!!!
I said it many times but I'll say it again: '' How to play like dUg Pinnick of KING's X''
How about a video on Derek Forbes best know for his work with Simple Minds and his lead bass style. Forbes is possibly the most underrated bassists in the world.
