Thank you so much for this tutorial, I got my first guitar a few months ago because I wanted to learn how to play reggae on guitar. I never knew how to get that iconic reggae sound because every time I would play it, I would always strum the chord and hold it out. This is a great example and teaching lesson of what to do and how to play reggae. Every other tutorial I’ve come across has taught me how to play it but not the technique. Thank you so much for teaching me how to get that iconic Marley sound on guitar.
This was very helpful, that you so much ❤
Thanks.
You are the second person i see, showing alternatives to Barre chords.
Two of mentioned that popular artistes don't really play the regular Barre chords.
It maked a hell of sense.
I can't bend my fingers into those positions thus i will never be able to play Reggae but i do enjoy listening to you John.
You're playing so nice thanks w lot ❤????????????
Imagine I am Jamaican and I can't strum the reggae rhythm, WOW!! You are awesome…love from Jam Down❤️????????
Fantastic! Been working on those Jimi/Marley chords! You explained the major/minor chords and made it super easy! Thank you.
Great guitar lesson!!
Thanks for showing the noted because the rasta was not showing that good..
Brother you good. You taught me hoe to play Bob's songs bass guitar now i am astonished by your skills to play rhythm????????????????
You are one of the few REAL reggae players on YouTube
Two 20 second ads was too long to wait for any video. Youtube think it’s delayed gratification but really it’s just annoyance. Sorry but Youtube killed my enthusiasm….again!
Hi John, can you use those shapes all over the fret board
How to play natural mistyc?
Vary nice
I know that the chop comes on the second and fourth beat of the bar, but man reggae drums are confusing as fuck.
Look at the tital of your video, you should feel really dumb eh? What's my comment below say?????
You’ all leave the man alone, uno just jealous , play on friend. They can’t teach squat!
Nobody ever try to play the wailers music, leave it alone you'll only ruin it, purists like me will only cringe, it's well known in the true reggae community to never try to do the wailers music it's sacred ffs
https://youtu.be/mbjPFyD0x1c, bob doesn't not play this rythm he strums it in a singular pattern, in most concerts his rythm guitar is not heard, only he hears it to keep the tempo
https://youtu.be/txfsV8qbyv8, Peter tosh played this guitar rythm, lead guitarist lead vocals at times of the early wailers,
He didn't play that bit lol that was Peter tosh and other versions it was played by junior marvin and or Al Anderson,. You know nothing,
Nice! What pedals are you using?
it's something like how Hendrix plays the chords
digging yr videos – u r lucid & concise teacher! could u maybe sometimes ever so briefly tell us what the bass lines are though here in this one i think i can figure it out.

nice bro
Say hello from Venezuela. Very nice video! What about the position of the mics and the pedals he used?
Good info.
You are the best teacher on YouTube teaching how to play reggae music.
thanks a lot for this video, very good! God bless you! SAUDAÇÕES DO BRASIL!!
Great tutorial,thank you
Bob Marley major strength was in songwriting; not guitar playing. The title for your video is mis-leading. How to play reggae would be more appropriate. Although Bob Marley played a major role in popularizing reggae (AND he is NOT the first Jamaican artist to do so) outside of Jamaica there is no such thing as a "Bob Marley style of reggae" BECAUSE it's the lead guitarists in the wailers band (Junior marvin, Al Anderson, Earl "Chinna Smith etc) along with the bass player Aston "Family Man" Barrett who are responsible for the sweet melodious riffs that you hear in Bob Marley songs. Listen to the song "It Hurts To Be Alone" and what stands out in the song is NOT Bob's singing but the melodious solo playing of the GREAT Jamaican Jazz guitarist Ernie Ranglin. Bob Marley major strength was in songwriting; not guitar playing.
Thought you would explain the rhythm and muting, not just the chord shapes…
Great video, you make it simple … thank you
Wow thank you so much J this is the easiest way to play guitar.
Can you please teach how to strum correctly both up and down?
PRO…
really great , from france 2019
