  • I believe Paul used his thumb to fret the F# on string 6 (that’s how I always play F&Fm chords I can’t barre chords.

Just an FYI if you wanna play this like Paul as far as the strumming pattern, play the high strings on a down stroke not an up stroke. ????

  • Don’t know why I’ve only just looked at this particular Beatles song to learn but I’ve so enjoyed your lesson on this. So purchased the tabs sheet and I’m now on it. As always thanks Andy. ????

  • Wow – I've been playing this for years without tuning down a whole step. I didn't realize it's not in standard tuning.

  • Fantastic job on this tutorial! Paul's guitar work is far more intricate than most people appreciate.
You might be interested in the video link below where there is a close up of more recent Paul playing Yesterday. Interestingly, he plays it with a little different strumming pattern, where the index fingers does mostly downstrokes instead of upstrokes (except of the plucks on beat). I wonder why he changed his strumming pattern over the years.

  • I am sure like you said didn't think of many things while he was playing but I am sure he thought about tuning sown the guitar and play on a G instead. that is amazing and he could hear things in his head and how they should be, something that we are not able to.

  • oh man, I have been playing this song for more than 40 years on a normally tuned guitar on F and I knew something didn't sound right. now I just again discovered how genius Paul McCartney was in making this song

  • Do you have long nails? Cause there's no other way to pick the high notes. And when i say long i mean very long????

  • Nobody teaches like you do. I am playing this song perfectly after a half hour of watching your video. You’re the best!

  • Good job! Not sure why a lot of (other) scores/lessons define the 2nd chord as m7b5… it’s just a minor chord part of ii-V-i secondary dominant leading to the vi. I guess half diminished works harmonically given its the vii degree but I just don’t hear the b5 in the melody

    Great lesson – very accurate

  • hands down the BEST Beatles songs tutorial! Perfectly accurate chord and pick and strumming. I'm primarily only into the Beatles and Rolling Stones, but as you have tutorials for a lot other bands now I'm thinking of expanding my interests.. only because of you! Thank you, and you're a true master, always striving for that exact sound and tone of the original recording
