Sharp is short.
one question ????????♂️. are you checking the action with the capo still on the 1st fret?
If you measure with your digital tool, looks like you’re measuring from top of fret to top of string I always measure string height top of twelfth fret to the bottom of the strings I use a six inch scale with 1/64th inch increments
I see you didn't reduce string tension when adjusting the bridge and tailpiece. Does that matter? I've always heard you need to loosen the strings especially when raising them.
Glad you pointed that point out about the ever-annoying ridiculous tailpiece debate I've seen in guitar channels everywhere, FB, Gear Page etc…
So many people think if their tailpiece isn't mashed down onto the top of the guitar it's lacking somesort of magical resonance lol. Although this certainly won't put an end to it either. On a side note if you're that concerned about your sustain, just go and invest in a sustain pedal and put your mind at ease ????
You forgot pickup height. Also why don't you ever use a notched straightedge to measure relief? (The way you're doing it involves the assumption of perfectly levelled frets, which might be the case for an actual, well maintained Gibson, but is not necessarily so for import instruments). PS(1). You are absolutely right about setting the stop tailpiece without worrying for sustain – people at some point need to learn where sustain comes from. PS(2). D and G strings on your guitar where pretty low in regard to 1st fret action. On the other hand B and high E were somewhat high. You can raise the low ones using the StuMac nut rescue powder and some superglue (applied carefully on a Gibson!).
Yes on videos for both bridge saddle radius filing, and nut slot curved cuts. Thanks!
I just refretted my Les Paul. Perfect timing. Thanks Dylan
I'd love to see the video on adjusting the bridge radius. My Nashville probably won't need it but I like to learn!
Great video! I would suggest a video about matching the bridge radius to the neck. Interested in your thoughts about filing the bridge saddles.
Might be the camera but man does that LP look cool as it changes colors in the different light…. Gotta get some better looking knobs on there tho my dude!! ???? congrats again on the 100k , hope that mccready strat is treating you well !! Talk to ya soon when I order some P90s !! Salute ????
Good subject video, Dylan. After all, even if one knows how, it doesn't hurt to review.
Re: Bridge issues . . . I've never had to file the saddles on a T.O.M bridge, but I for one would appreciate your take on a proper technique or any tricks of the trade.
Does this work for 335's too? I'm trying to learn and setup one and is driving me crazy. If not, will you ever do a 335 set up tutorial? Thanks! 🙂
Very important series for video. Thanks Professor Dylan.
So you don't have to wrap tape over a regular screw driver, a nickel fits the slot perfectly and won't mar the screw when you turn it. Also, why not top wrap just the strings that are touching the bridge, likely only the low e anyway?
I test my stop bar height by sliding a piece of paper between the back side or the bridge and the strings. If is slides freely, I’m happy.
Thanks Dylan
Thanks Dylan. Greetings from Chile!
Thanks Dylan! ????????
Yay for 100k ????????
