  • You never use standard tuning on a 12 string! Move into a different video for correct information.

  • Not sure why these are popular. Very limited on what you can play . Sounds beautiful . But unless your playing Led Zeppelin E A D G chords pretty much all a 12 string is useful for

  • Just got my first 12 string guitar and realised I hadn't a clue how to tune it. Tuning a 6 string is simple but didn't know about the 4 lower strings being tuned an octave apart. Great wee video!

  • Nice. Thanks. A friend just helped her daughter get a twelve-string. I want to get her a gift and it looks like a regular guitar tuner should work fine.

  • Hi there, thanks for this tutorial. I am wondering if you can help me out. I have an older 12 string guitar and wondering if you know the tuning for an older 12 string guitar. I’ve been told when I bought it years ago it’s not the same as a normal 6 string guitar. If you could help me out, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • A lot of 12 string guitars on sale with warped necks,I never tune my 12 string in standard tuning , always a full step down , had my 12 string for 19 years with no issues at all, also if you want to play in standard tuning , just put a 12 string capo on the second fret….voila you’re now in standard tuning.

  • Very useful!
I love 12s, and have 2 acoustic and 2 electric.
The biggest issue is the octave G… That'll break so easily, but it's absolutely crucial to that huge sound (try playing your guitar with just 11 strings… ????) that it's really good practice to have a few spare G-strings knocking about.

I'd advise to find a gauge that sounds and feels good to you.
Usually you'll find 11s and 12s on an acoustic, but honestly you don't want thát enormous tension on your guitar…
I've put 9s (with a 008 G) on my electrics and then did this for the acoustics too – far easier to play and they sound lovely…

  • Frank Zappa hate this 12 strings guitars and Ritchie Blackmore said the action is so high almost unplayable ( but for lead guitar ) he also give a demonstration of Purple songs with a acoustic guitar .

  • I found this to be fairly helpful. Only problem is in your demonstration on the G you played the upper G twice instead of the lower and upper giving it 196 Hz both times which threw me off and took me awhile to figure it out but then I went back to the end of your video where you were playing both sets of strings simultaneously then the tone actually came up right.

  • I cannot tell you how many videos I've gone through. I cannot operate this fast. The tones need to be way longer instead of two plucks. Can you please generate a video that does each tone of each string for about 15 seconds? So in other words each tone will have 15 seconds worth of noise, so we can at least have an attempt to tune our guitar to it. This is way too fast and everyone else on here doing the same thing. I just need the video of the tones in 15 second increments which would make it easy for all of us. Your explanation is fine, but the tones and everything is way too fast.
