How-To: Use BOSS SL2 Slicer with HOTONE Soul Press II Expression Pedal

After some further research I did find out that some expression pedals will not work for BOSS pedals, even if they are TRS. So just make sure your expression pedal is BOSS compatible. Some have reversed polarity or other issues. The Hotone Soul Press II obviously works just fine. Also the Zoom FP02 pictured in the video will work, I tested that one too. You’ll just need a MIDI controller to control any MIDI functions.

Epiphone Les Paul Special, Hotone Soul Press II Wah and Expression both at the same time, Ginean Modulator Ringmod (DOD Gonkulator Clone) with Gain and Level knobs at 12 o’clock, Sunk all the way up, and Freq and Ring all the way down for distortion, Two Notes Le Clean for preamp, TC Electronic Impulse with built-in Celestion 4×12 IR cabinet, BOSS SL2 Slicer with the expression pedal controlling the Tempo knob function, BOSS RC-10R for drums and recording the track, Carvin Mach-100 Power Amp pedal for monitoring and output to DAW.

I got a great idea from an awesome comment left on one of my other BOSS SL-2 videos. It was from a viewer and he explains how he uses his expression pedal to control the Tempo Knob which sounded really fun to try out.

I updated the SL-2 illustration and made a really cool one of the Hotone Soul Press II with Adobe Software to animate the instructions and to give a you the full picture of how to use your SL-2 Slicer pedal with any compatible expression pedal. All without having to dig through that convoluted BOSS manual.

I used my Hotone Soul Press II for this example, but you can use any expression pedal that has a TRS output for your own use. I am pretty sure that MIDI the expression pedals are excluded, and the midi input is only used for syncing the tempo, changing the output volume of the effect, and turning the SL2 on and off.
