Hey kids! Its your good buddy, Uncle Ben Eller, and on today’s video we are going to break down a topic you all have been asking about for years: How to write a GREAT guitar solo!!!
In this lesson, i’m going to take you all with me as i go through the process of writing a guest solo for Eric Hill’s song “Silos”. In the process, we will talk about the importance of LISTENING, building themes and motifs, call and response phrases, the importance of chord tones, how to choose the right scales to use over tricky chords, phrasing tips, my studio gear setup, and so much more! Its gonna give you everything you see for a creative jumpstart on your own solos for sure.
I’m playing my PRS SE Hollowbody here into the Axe FX 3, and i’m wearing my favorite pineapple shirt.
Thanks so much for watching! Let me know what you want to learn next in the comments section!

What the hell is he talking about????
I'm curious about this from the rhythm perspective… what makes for good support during a guitar solo… what makes a good rhythm to solo over?
– think less about in key and more about in chord
– you wanna develop ideas based on something you've already played (consistency)
– question and answer, take the same lick and end it on two different ways
Gotta solo
How did you say all that mode stuff off the top of your head
that was nice! tasty solo

Would you consider uploading the backing track recording for viewers to try applying what your teaching? Perhaps it is available somewhere but I can't seem to find a link in the comments or description.
Love the proud boys shirt.
Thanks for showing how to work some call & response phrasing to build dramatic tension and then resolving it with a splashy but not jarring finish. Just what I was looking for!
