How you should build your pedal board in 2025: A guide to small and medium rigs

Here is a guide to building boards using both amp and ampless rigs combining analog and digital pedals. in this we look at compression, wahs, drives, EQ, Delay, small and medium boards. Considerations to pedal form factors, shapes and cabling, power and supply as well as the uses. We look at different budgets and functions and a small rig is built in real time. We look at how to upscale this to a larger sized rig. I give a brief overview of how some of the pedals can be used for dual purposes and what and be substituted or swapped out as well as how to choose the right pedals.   • The cheapest board I find is using a cutting board for the kitchen. 4 bolts and a 2nd board cut in half equals double layer board. The local Dealz will stock everything needed

    I love little pedalboards…about 4 or 5 pedals. I can really think more about what pedals do I really need, and the flexibility to play multiple things.

    One of the best pedals for this option of little pedalboards is, for me, the Line6 HX One. It's a beast of a pedal.
