  • Proves if you have a Yale degree you know ** about music. R$ is an industry joke. Mick Jones of the Clash was one of the most inspiring players. Live he was melodic in an effortless way.

  • Great mag 50 years ago – this list sums up the numbskulls who put it together. Many never heard of, many who aren't guitarists, many who never will be.

  • The new list values diversity more than competence. Joan Jett on the list but Elliot Easton, Matthias Jabs and Joe Pass are not? Johnny Ramone and Neil Young could not play a solo for their life. But no Peter Frampton?

  • obviously done to create a stir about a dated magazine. here we are responding just as they intended, giving them free marketing. now who's the foolish one?….lol

  • I have been playing guitar for over 50 years, just like to mention the Iconic Frank Marino. Canadas greatest guitarists. Most underatted guitarist on the planet. One of the original shredders, super fast. Great Psychedelic/Rock/Blues/Jazz maestro. Check on live at the agora theatre on YouTube.
Ain't dead yet, insane solo. A lot of the greats rate him but not really known by the
    masses .

  • Rolling Stone is a fucking rag. Agree with you. Leaving off Peter Frampton, Buck Dharma, Dave Gregory of XTC and Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham is a fucking joke.,

  • From Australia , what no Alvin Lee , Tommy Emmanuel , or Gary Moore , give me a break , Peace from down under.

  • These Rolling stone lists are not thought out our researched well. Their list of top 200 singers had the top eleven singers were African American . Yeah that top 11 were all capable singers but Freddie Mercury is better than at least 8 of the top 11 . They didn't mention Celine Dion ( not a fan but she's got great pipes ) or John Farnham ( if you don't know Farnham go have a listen ) .

Prince should be top 5 and I'm not even a massive Prince fan .

  • PJ Harvey? Why, I mustve been so wrong all my life admiring players like Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai when, obviously, PJ Harvey outshreds them all. Thanks for opening my eyes RS with your infinite wisdom and refined taste.

  • This is a “woke” list of DEI inclusions because god forbid you have too many “white” guys. A sprinkling of females, black guys, oriental people, gay people, and a few that you’ve never heard of, all higher than true guitar legends. wtf? A total joke.

  • Neil Young on the list is a joke. He isn’t the only one.

    Keith Urban is great player.

Brad Paisley has more skills than anyone on the list.

Andy Summers is a classically trained guitarist.

But there are hundreds of better guitarist omitted

Perhaps they should have called it, “250 of the most influential guitarist”

  • Paul Simon is not ONLY one of the greatest songwriters and singers ever, but a fantastic (acoustic) guitar player. Just saying. ????
But the list in general is of course totally bonkers. Where's Holdsworth (and so many others)?!

  • The staff at Rolling Stone magazine are obnoxious and insufferable snobs. They obviously perceive their musical taste as being highbrow and eclectic.
