  • I wish they would make a 4xEL84 VERSION for extra clean headroom. I'm guessing it would be 30w class A… And yes I know about the 40w EL34 Version

  • The one thing I don't like about the Helix family is that they don't have any Bad Cat models. The real thing is too rich for my blood.

  • I don't know if I miss that part but how is this for home use if you gig but play at home mostly?

  • Great playing as always. I have a question, do you typically run the tone knobs on your guitar all the way up or do you roll them off a bit?

  • I bought a cub about 12 months ago, cost me £2000 and on the whole was disappointed to be honest. Too sparkly and noisy surprisingly! It even had stiff knobs pardon the pun. Mine wasn’t hand wired and £2000 in my opinion is over priced, there’s cheaper amps out there with at least as good tone. All that said tone is a very personal thing but just not my bag…

  • Gain low/master high ????????
Try as i might, I never could do the Vox thing. I play a Strat 70% of the time, I've just never found them to be a great match. I'm talking about using it as "the" amp scenario, as opposed to as a pedal platform. Strats are chimy enough all on their own for my taste, it's why when i want a Marshall tone with it I've been going with the Silver Jubilee for a couple decades. The darker nature of the amp just lends itself well to single coils.
I do wonder how they would be as pedal platforms though. In general i find Vox to be neutral compared to Fender and Marshall, it's one of the things that's kept me from bonding them. It might be perfect for a platform.
… Though shilling out hand wired prices just to use it for a pedal platform seems excessive.

  • My Bad cat Cool Cat el34 amp chimes very close to an el84 . I’m a big believer that transformer’s and hand wiring plays a bigger role than tubes when it comes to tone.

  • The amp is interesting for sure but at the price point (and below actually) there are so many awesome amps I doubt I'd pick this one. I had a small collection of hand wired amps including fender, marshall and vox as well as some boutique like cornell etc. I sold most of them. If I was going for a hand made valve amp at this time I think I'd go Emprize or Flynn amps if I wanted a tweed amp.

  • Im a big fan of EL84s. They sound so warm and don't get brittle when pushed.
I use a Laney Lionhearted or a Vox AC15 depending on the gig. I like being able to have those pushed amp tones that stay musical and don't suck at lower stage volume.
