The Jazzmaster is one of the most often overlooked and underrated Fender guitars, initially being somewhat of a failure before eventually taking root in the indie and underground music scene and becoming an icon in its own right. But what’s the best one in the modern day line up? We’re taking 5 Jazzmasters from cheapest to most expensive and putting them head to head. Thanks to Sweetwater for sponsoring this video.

Go check out Keith’s @fivewattworld video on the history of the Jazzmaster:

  • My wife bought me a Blue Sparkle Ultra Jazzmaster for Christmas 2019 although it’s a beautiful guitar I really hated the noiseless pickups , uninspiring , dull , underpowered , but I had to act like I liked it because my wife not knowing any better wanted it to be me favorite guitar , she ask me sometimes why don’t I see you playing the Jazzmaster I got you ? Last year Fender came out with the Jazzmaster CUNIFE pickups , although pricey I took my chances and installed them , had the compound neck Pleked and installed Grafh Tech saddles . 600 dollars but now I play it all the time so on top of the review you gave it the pickups was the worst and was hard to believe the stock saddles were not adjustable to compensate for the compound neck .

  • Not surprising that MIM JM was the top pick. 25 years ago I determined the best bang for the buck was the Fender MIM guitar. At that time a Guitar Center rep told me the factory was only 30 miles away from the Texas factory just over the border (don't know if that's true or not). I have a MIM Strat, Tele, and a Baritone that I converted easily with an American made Bari neck. Same neck specs. They also seem to hold their value on the resale mkt.

  • I wish someone would actually play jazz on one of these in their demo, that’s the main reason I’m looking into these

  • Not surprised the CV placed 2nd. Tremendous value in that series. If the squier logo bothers you that much sand it off.. plus one for brass.. Makes all the difference. Great video!

  • The more expensive ones, to my ears and in my opinion, immediately translated much more of the vintage feel sonically. I haven't a clue if it's the particular quality of the woods or the various bridge and nut/tuners materials sort of upgraded as the price point rises ; and maybe manufacturing integrity per se. Of course there's pickups and individual setups folks use too. But having a familiarity with very versatile and vintage JM's that's just my opinion. It's not to say that the others aren't playable or workable.. This guy seems to know his stuff

  • Rhett could you compare a Yngwie Malmsteen Strat to various other signature Strats ? Eric Clapton Strat vs Robin Trower … more …. Thanks . ✨????✨☮️????‍♂️????????????????

  • Good luck trying to find the custom shop bridge. I'm not even sure why there isn't a knockoff for it by now. If someone knows something I don't about getting it for a normal price, let me know. LOL

  • I just picked up, a AVRI2 66 for the price of the Vintera. Literally still has plastic on the pick guard. Ive never played or even touched one in my 35yrs give or take of playing. Yeah Im old xGen. Never ever wanted one. So this is my first. Say modern and say it has a fast neck, Im out, lost me.. I dont like anything in the ultra lineup. At all. The necks suck IMO.

  • I have a MIM 60’s Lacquer, basically a 62’ AVMI. I paid $500 used. Put a statrem bridge and tremolo collet and treble bleeds on both circuits. ❤this guitar.

  • Piping in on behalf of my two Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmasters. They rule, and they're beautiful. My favorite and main guitars. The American Vintage 65 pickups are fantastic , they take pedals so well. Dont overlook them.

  • Yoooo BODYSNATCHERS!!!! Hell yeah! Finally someone doing the JM right (not counting @Puisheen) instead of just playing a generic Blueswashed “Shoegaze” thing with a ton of distortion, reverb & delay. Or the extreme jangle thing that no one gets right when they’re not regular JM players.

  • Why doesn't Squier?Fender fix the buzzing tremelo? They tried with J Mascis JM and Vintera Modified . I'd look at those too?

  • Why was the squier classic vibe not recorded in mono like all the others? It makes it a bit unfair when comparing the sound.

  • I have the Squier 60s Classic Vibe and I have been very happy with it for a few years. I never use the tremolo. I paid someone to level the frets and it’s been perfect. Sounds like a Jazzmaster to me.

  • I have a Limited Edition 60th Anniversary Jazzmaster in Daphne Blue. Which is it most similar to?

  • I replaced the saddles on my inexpensive jazz master and that really helped. Just search Sweetwater for them. Costs around $50.

  • Worth pointing out that the rhythm circuit on the AMProII isn't a typical JM rhythm circuit – it's both pickups in series with 1Meg pots, whereas the lead circuit on that guitar is 500k pots. You also get an extra fret! Oh, and the Vintera II doesn't have the Panorama Trem, only the AmProII has that. 🙂

  • The Classic Vibe series, is hands down the best bang for your buck, as far as the guitar, and quality control go. Screw what the headstock says. That’s for label whores imo. I had a Classic 50’s Vibe Tele, with the prettiest white blonde finish I’ve ever seen from the line. The white was far less opaque, and the wood grain, had a hint of purple to it. It looked incredible. It played, and sounded great, and I still regret selling it lol.
