Discover all the essential details ????

Hey there! In this video, I’m diving deep into the Eastwood Univox Hi-Flier, a modernized take on the legendary model Kurt Cobain made famous in Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box video. This guitar screams grunge vibes but has the versatility to handle so much more. With a basswood body, phase 4 open humbuckers, and a unique headstock design, it’s packed with features for players looking for something special.

I’ll walk you through the clean tones, show how it handles distortion (spoiler: it’s spot on with a Boss DS-1!), and compare it to the Fender Kurt Cobain Jaguar. We’ll also look at the build quality, under the hood, and even tackle some quirks. From the intense punch of the bridge pickup to the mellow charm of the middle position, this guitar has tones to match its bold looks.

  • Interesting review Andy – definitely a Marmite guitar. You mentioned the scale length issue and said the KC Jaguar was “Fender” scale. Of course, it isn’t what most people think of as the Fender scale length, 25.5 inches, it’s actually 24 inches which is shorter than the Eastwood’s “Gibson” scale of 24.75 inches. Anyway, I’m still trying to work out if I like Marmite or prefer meat & potatoes.

  • I had one a while ago, but I ended up selling it because I never really used it much. I regret it so much…

  • Hi. love your Videos . Eastwood got another Hi Flier out, it resembles the phase 1 with p90s which in Sunburst. Looks pretty cool too. I really want a hi flier as big into Nirvana and saw also the Aria Pro DM206. That resembles the Hi flier headstock 100%
anyway hope you try out some more Kurt style gear as I've watched all yours gazillion times????

  • I'm not a Nirvana nerd by any means, but this guitar sounded nasty and dirty in the best way! LOVE what Eastwood is doing; they're really keeping the flame alive.

  • Hmmm, it's certainly an intriguing look kinda like a reverse Strat body style.

However, that pickup selector position could be my worst nightmare, I have trouble with the one on my squier Jazzmaster baritone (a twin of yours Andy)

  • Have had an original phase 4 for about 20 years. Great guitar, one of my main players to this day, along with my phase 3. The bodies in these reissues are thicker. Got mine ridiculously cheap. Pawn shop daze

  • To everyone saying "johnny Ramone used a guitar like that." He didnt, most of his mosrites had either duel single coils, duel mini humbuckers or a combo of a mini humbucker and a single coil. I dont remember him using duel humbucker guitars. Also he didnt use uni voxes he used real mosrites not copies.

  • It looks as if it were left out in the sun, and melted. The pickups went all wonky and bent.

  • Coincidentally, bought a used model about 6 weeks ago. One of those hero guitars – for me the post punk guys of the 70s/80s. I love that it feels really raw and basic. The neck just looks like a flat slab of wood but plays so well. And I love all the high end from the pickups. Really great for scratchy new wave stuff.

  • You did not pull the ground off. I watched it over and it wasn't connected. Peace And I'm not a big fan of the guitar, but I am a fan of yours.

  • If you want a really good Mosrite copy (unlike these), check out Hallmark guitars.

If this is what you want, more power to you.

  • And the headstock looks like Bart Simpson's hair! It just needs a couple of googly eyes make the look more complete.

  • “HEY! WAIT!” God I love this thing. They say Kurt wanted to use the comp-stang in the Heart-Shaped Box video but couldn’t find it (it was under his bed lol). I think it was the right choice to use his Moserite though. Such a pretty guitar…
