Now the Ultra II
I’m curious about the new Ultra II Meteoras.
Would you say since its a full scale, that its good for someone like me whose hands are a lil small ?
Bro, I love hearing how other people think about instruments and your video is wonderful. Great job. I have an American Made Jazz Bass, made in 2024. It's one of the Chicago Music Exchange commissioned basses in Pine Green with the 18v system, Modern D neck with compound radius fingerboard etc. etc. It is amazing, and I love everything about it. I can't put it down. Seeing that Fender just released a new American Made version of the bass in this review, I would love for Fender to send you one to do a comparison. The American Made Meteora Bass seems like it may have the same neck and compound radius fingerboard that my J-Bass has as well as the control system. Clearly the pickups are different but, I'd love to see an update regarding the US model as well as to hear your take on the differences, if any, in their necks and electronics between the Mexican and US submissions. One more note: I disagree with your inclination to think the switch activating the active electronics, should be positioned down towards the electronics. Sonically, it makes more sense (in my tiny little brain) to think UP is louder, DOWN is lower. We all know passive is lower and active is higher so, change your mindset and allow yourself to think UP=Boost, DOWN=NOT-Boost, or passive, or down, or lower, or less,. Seriously, let me know how I can assist in your acquisition of a US model of this Fender Bass so we can all see a fair comparison. #Fender #Fenderbass #Meteora #Fenderguitars #Bass #Basstone
That body shape is horrible.
That squeak at 4:33 is like nails on chalkboard for me ????. How sticky is the neck?
Looks like some something John entwistle would play, great sound off it
Very nice bass indeed, do you think it can hold a 165 gauge string through that bridge?
Jonny! I have the Tequila Sunrise Meteora and absolutely love it. What first attracted me to the Meteora was a review that I read said about the shape, “If the Jetsons had a band, their bass player would play a Meteora.” That pretty sold me right there. ???? Between the EQ and adjusting the pickups, there there is a huge spectrum of possible tones. In my opinion the passive mode is only when the batteries die in the middle of a set. Passive is not very useful without tone controls. But like you said, the Meteora is all about active. The neck is fantastic. Interestingly on my bass the stacked knobs are bass and mids, and the other EQ control is treble. Not sure if they change anything in the knob arraignment. In the local Boston rock music scene I have seen only one other Meteora. I thought they would have caught on more. I highly recommend the Meteora. Great review Jonny!
Just got one today from my local shop and went straight to a gig. It took about 2 or 3 songs and I was in love with the neck and the tone. Might be my favorite in my collection. Got the blue one. It had been in the store for a long time and had been drastically discounted.
i have the 'tequila sunrise' one, the red sunburst, absolutely love it! was looking at getting the black one also, great vid!
It reminds me of the discontinued Dimension basses.
Johnny the bass looks or seems comfortable to be sitting or standing. Do you think the high mass bridge prevents neck dive. Excellent content and delivery by your good self. ????????
Don't know about your brain, but for me swith down = off and switch up = on, so all is very logical.
But in your country cars are driving on the other side of the roads, so…
I was so close to buying one but the frets were so sharp and crusty and had a few other issues on the one I found, and the shop wouldn’t give me a deal. Because it was “new” picked up a jazz bass instead. The Mexican Fenders are real hit and miss. If you find a good one grab it will treat you right.
Not a fan of the body shape, but active circuit sounds good and the rolled edges are a nice touch.
Hated the look of them when introduced …but as time goes in I'm gassing big time
Not 100% sold on the looks but sounds great (fav set on both passive and active = both pickups with treble boost and others flat or treble and bass boost)
Fender Stingray is pretty cool.
I really like basses in that "sort of Jazz, sort of Stringray HH" territory.
MANNNNNN I WANNA GO TO BASS BROS
No coil selection…????????????
Nice review!
Spent a year with it stock before gutting it and using EMG soapbars to transform it into an J/H with 3 way toggle and Aluminati neck.
I'm really hoping they do a Squier model it's a very cool sounding and looking bass. I think how it handles effects is what sells me on it most.
They should have a standard passive model with blend/vol/tone controls
Got one not long after they came out. Absolutely one of my favorite basses out there.
I actually like the color that changes from red to yellow. I can't believe that Fender still produces that pathetic bolt on neck block. You'd think they would have learned by now. I guess I'm spoiled since I bought a Aria Pro II new in 1981 and have been playing it ever since. I wish they would have used a regular shape pick-up of some sort instead of the custom shape so they could be changed out if so desired. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good in the video but after trying to change out my odd sized Aria soap bar pick-up after it died, I learned a valuable lesson, that it's best to stick with a standard pick-up design.
I like everything about this bass except the preamp. a set of Gotoh Carbon-O-Lite tuners would look great on this bass. This is the same preamp in the Deluxe series and i'm not a fan of not having a passive tone control so it would have to go. The Fireball Humbuckers come with 4 conductor leads so I would split them. perhaps the knob just needs a shot of contact cleaner? 5:18 That Fender is a head scratcher. Cheers from Toronto ????????????
Would you be willing to share your HX Stomp patches? I really like your distorted preset and I can never figure out how to get mine to sound the same.
You must've found a particularly good one. As soon as these were available locally, I played a few expecting to take one home. Absolutely hated them all. The frets were sprouting, neck finish was awful, and it just felt cheaply made. I played a few other Mexican Fenders at the same time just to be sure it wasn't the Meteora. Turns out they were all terrible.
Pretty sure Vintera II is the most expensive Mex line
For an ugly bass it sounds pretty sweet ????
I kinda like this shape and sound, it has same pickup configuration of an Ibanez SR3xx bass or a Sire M series bass, but the sound is totally from another world: completely different tone!
I’m glad you finally got around to reviewing the Meteora. It would be on my list if I was looking for a new bass, but I’m currently satisfied with the 3 I’ve got.
I love this shape. <3 The only thing I KNOW I would do is pick up the blue one (Opal Spark?) and the grab a Meteora maple fretboard neck from STRATosphere or such because that is my favorite combo. (What is it with barely any guitars with a blue bod and maple board?? Ah well.)
Also uhhhh, SQUIER VERSION PLEASE. Bass and guitar.
