Ibanez BTB745: https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/btb745_1p_05.html

Hey everyone! Today we’re reviewing a bass that I’ve always wanted to check out, the Ibanez BTB745. The BTB series is the ‘big’ bass from Ibanez. Where the Soundgear series has a sleek streamlined body and slick 34″ scale neck with tight string spacing, the BTB series is rocking 35″ scale neck thru construction, wide 19mm spacing, and a big body. Does this big Ibanez bass deliver the goods? Let’s find out!

This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with SIT Foundation Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(125) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at https://sitstrings.com/

  • Thanks for the comprehensive review! Recently I shopped around for a used mid-tier bass was very tempted and almost convinced with this video to buy this model, or the 6-string version (BTB746) as they were the front runners in my list of choices within my budget. Ultimately just before I pulled the trigger on the BTB746, I ended up finding a gorgeous customized BTB866SC at a price I couldn't refuse and went with that one, of course!

  • I have an Ibanez 675 with Bartolini and MKII pickups. Based on what I’ve read in the comments, it also includes a built-in preamp. Does this mean I still need a preamp pedal, or does it completely replace it?

  • I have a ibanez btb 1005e from 2004. It's a very cool piece of history for ibanez, the first btb to use bartolini pickups, tho they're single coil on the 1005e, and the neck is bolt on

  • I have 2004 BTB 405 also with sharp edges which I sanded down that made a huge difference comfort wise. Also had the locking jack which i permanently disengaged. Other than that the bass is an amazing workhorse

  • how would you rank this bass against a sire v3 5 string? I'm torn between these two, the ibanez being 25% cheaper (i don't know why, but sires are pricier in my country)

  • Thx for the info, I learned alot. Question about your Shazaam truther shirt, is that a 'Mandela effect' reference?

  • I used to own a BTB I bought on a whim, an earlier model, who knows what ibanez called it. btb xyz gg bfg 9000? It had even playability, kinda decent working tone.. And it was just the least inspiring instrument I have ever owned. It was fairly well built, inexpensive neck through with tons of potential. There was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't really sound like.. well, anything. A working bass tone sure but just absolutely devoid of any character yet not articulate enough to stand as some "hifi" tone. Granted, it had bartolini pickups and as far as I can gather, that's what bartolinis do. And they are placed in the least interesting positions. They are the epitome of meh. But I wish they actually worked on the btb to give it some kind of a sound. Ditch the bartolinis, give it ken smith / peavey cirrus pickup spacing. Make it sound like something, give the bass a reason to exist.

  • I realized that my btb 745 bass knob is in the middle, treble knob at the back and mid knob is at the front ????????‍♂️ anyone else have that same issue?

  • After I watched a couple of dozens videos from Lobster, I've noticed one thing: He just laughts for two reasons… the very first is when he get in the vibe of the bass line he's doing and the second occurs when he's enjoyning the bass eventhough pinpointing some issues with the instrument. ????

  • You should get an Ibanez with the Ibanez T1 pick ups. Personally, I’ve played several of these and own a cort curbow 5 with the mark II batolinis. Playing with the mids helps the tone out. I also use EB cobalts on all my basses. Definitely took some figuring out and lows can be muddy if not configured right but once I started playing with the mids it helped out a lot. I appreciate your highly informative reviews, thanks LEL!

  • I just played one of these at the music store and absolutely fell in love with the feel of the neck and string spacing. I do agree with your cons though. Do you have any recommendations of basses with similar necks and string spacing?
