  • Absolutely agree with your comments on the tone zone! I highly recommend working on the pickup height for this specific pickup… it’s a game changer

  • I own the 2017 ibanez RG8520ZE and i love it. One of two one off models that come stock with active pickups, specifically a EMG 81 set and i love it. I'm not a fan of passive pickups so it was a no brainer to get this one, especially in the color it's in. Although it would be cool to have stainless steel frets, it plays so well it makes me not care about stainless steel frets. People need to understand that you don't get a J custom for the specs. You get them for the craftsmanship and feel and price. I'll take craftsmanship and feel over top end specs. You can get a new J custom for just under 3k while other companies like ESP/Jackson would charge theirs for 5k+. I feel like mine is miles above the prestige line. They're great don't me wrong but i was blown away by the craftsmanship from the J custom, more so than the prestige lines

  • First off, gorgeous instrument and it really sounds incredible you have it dialed in really well!

"worth" is too hard to define as you have to be on the same perspective as the buyer which isn't really possible. For me personally, my most expensive guitars are Prestige line. I think this level of 'quality' is as good as I'm willing to pay for and be happy. I think the J.Customs likely do 'feel' better etc., but the diminishing returns becomes too high for the price point. I do all my own setups, fret dressing etc., as needed and I think that's honestly more important than brand or line a lot of the time. I recently got a used Legator 7 string 26.5 scale, SS frets, 18inch radius, locking tuners, fishman pickups, for like $650 and set it up and it plays damn near as well and comfortable as any of my 'higher end' instruments. Very happy with it!

So in the end, any instrument cheap or expensive can be bad or incredible based on so many factors I try not to paint any brand or price point with a broad brush, especially if you're comfortable setting things up yourself, you can get damn near anything playing wonderfully.

As far as playing it for certain styles etc., I think (as hard as it can be) you should totally ignore all that stuff. It's YOUR guitar and you should play it however the hell you want. Shred, chords, slam, blues, whatever. I also think despite it being expensive, unless it's well outside your 'price point' and you're only really holding on to it as some sort of investment (which I'd just advise investing in something else haha) you should play the shit out of it. I remember being a bit freaked out to 'mess up' even my Prestiges but at the end of the day, I buy guitars to play them and if I get a ding or scratch, it may cost me a bit on re-sale but I'm not usually looking at buying gear to resell so if i lose $100 per scratch, I'd rather have enjoyed playing the guitar as much as I want.

    My 2c!

  • Certainly a very nice guitar but would probably struggle to justify spending that much. I liked what they did with the premium range, in particular the RGT1270PB – stainless steel frets, the Air Norton, Tone Zone and True Velvet pickups, neck through and comes in my favourite colour – ????

That said, I've also pondered an ESP E-II which are probably between the Lrestige and J custom price.

There will be nothing new for a long time though and possibly a 5 string bass would need next anyway.

  • BTW, your voice has a unique calmness and sooths me. You can talk about anything and I could listen. I watch your videos, even though I don't really care about the topic you mention. One thing that comes to my mind while watching your videos, "How rich this guy is?".

  • I have the 2024 RG8570 as well. Since I bought it, I play it daily. Sounds and plays amazing. Is it worth 3000$? I'd say yes. Gibson, Fender and PRS charges for 7000$ for their custom shop guitars, which are not better and even worse than a J. Custom Ibanez. However back in 2000s, you could buy such a guitar for a 1000$. So I think all guitar prices are inflated.

  • Was that last clean section really on the neck humbucker? It sounded so single coil bell like!

  • I have the 2024 RG8570 and play it 4 hours everyday since i got it.
Never bother leaving a scarch on it.
The only thing i can complain abot this guitar is the weight.
