Ibanez RGIXL7 – more strings, more scale, more good? (baritone 7 string)

Ibanez Baritone 7 string RGIXL7
https://thmn.to/thoprod/485613?offid=1&affid=3523

a really cool steathy/blacked out finish with some cool features on a baritone scale length

if you specifically want to hear more tones, I also use it in the my Mixwave Spiritbox – Mike Stringer plugin video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3FuFX3v2ro

or a heavy track with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXRmyIpbm-c

Tones are from my FM3, the pickups are unfortunately quite muddy for heavy stuff without really dialing things in, but hopefully a pickup switch will remedy this

2x Dimarzio Fusion Edge pickups
27″ scale length
3 way selector switch
single volume + coil split switch
Gibraltar bridge

This is my first real forray into 7 strings, while i’ve borrowed one in the past to try, never owned one, and since I’ve been playing in a metal band for the last 3-4 years, I felt like it was time to add to the arsenal of tricks and potentially something for live use as well as having more tones on hand as well as for various demos and sessions

  • if you want to hear this with more gain and recent mods:

I forgot to mention it was around 770 euros with shipping, I honestly think you can find them closer to the 700 euros mark and below, but i guess it was a dry patch leading up to xmas ???? i've since done some mods (future video) and have been experimenting in more traditional tunings (G standard etc..) fun guitar in any case

  • Those satin finished are a nightmare in black. Ill never buy one again from anyone. They collect the oils off your fingers and hands like sht sticking to a blanket and trying to clean it only buffs the soiled area into a shine which you never get back to an even satin finish again. They also buff up to a shine in any area that has regular contact, like from a pinky finger around the volume pot etc. You can already see it starting on this one. I really wish Ibanez would do this in a gloss finish and be done with this satin finish thing. Id buy one of these in a heartbeat if they did as I love the specs with that reverse headstock.

  • Coming from a 26 1/2 inch scale to a 27 inch scale. The difference is so minor but it took me some time to get used to. I cannot imagine scaling at 28 inches and above. I wonder what that be like????????

  • I didn’t like d’activators i found they have the same issue you’re talking abt. good news though: the seymour duncan nazgul rail version has triangular ears on the pickups ???? I got them in my Xiphos now and they are KILLER

  • Looks and sound sick! I’m considering the multiscale RGD7ALMS, or even the budget RGMS7 – both seem pretty good balance between keeping the standard scale on 6 strings while having the 27’’ for the lower string!

  • Had one of those for a while and I really liked the neck! I ended up putting a Dimarzio Titan in the bridge. The Fusion Edge just didn't have the cut and clarity I liked for a bridge pickup, but they definitely aren't terrible pickups. Having Gotoh locking tuners stock is a killer feature.
