Ibanez Soundgear SR300 – Beginner’s bargain or novice’s nightmare?- LowEndLobster Review

Hey everyone. Today we’re reviewing the Ibanez Soundgear SR300. These basses feature the signature Soundgear pencil-thin neck, a 3 band EQ, 3 pickup modes for two humbuckers, and a frugal $350 USD price tag. Is this the best beginner bargain, or did Ibanez spread themselves too thin here? Let’s find out!
This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with MJC Ironworks Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(130) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at www.mjcironworks.com

Power Tap is a sort of coil-split, but one coil is grounded through a capacitor. Therefore only high-frequency signals are grounded, whereas low-frequency signals are sent to the output.
Is the same bass as my jackson. like 98% the same, only changed is the split coil only is 2 positions and the line jack. Good bass for cheap gigs.
I disagree. This bass makes a great beginner bass….better than the Yamaha trbx 304
I have this bass. Its my first bass and ive been playing for a year and a half straight. Ill be honest, i dont like it that much but it will always be my baby. Theres something about it that sounds like shit
Of course we are all intitled to our opinions. But as far as the Ibanez SR300 line I 100% disagree with this review. I have one in weathered black and it plays, feel and sounds awesome. I have been a musician for 50 years and this is definitely not a beginner bass. That would be the Gio line. Which for the money play and feel great too. People who choose Ibanez guitars and basses like the thinner bodies and necks. It is one of the many things that makes an Ibanez great for people who like that. To me this bass is a work horse. I absolutely love it and have done alot of recording with it. I would highly recommend it to anyone at any level.
Got the SR306E 3 months ago and it sounds terrible. I get this weird distortion when I hit the strings hard esp on the E and B strings. I replaced the pickup with the bartolini bh2 pickup and surprisingly, the distortion is sti there but not as much as the powerspan pickups… I'm beginning to suspect the bass itself… I isolated the preamp when testing the bass with both pickups..
Came for the bass review, stayed for the cats
Why does he kinda look like vsauce
I didn’t know vsause played bass
Bet this guy thinks apple smart phones are better because they are more expensive. If you are looking to get this Bass get it. If you like to jam it has plenty of options to do just that.
this doesn't sound like a classic tone bass. it sounds like a metal and hard rock bass in terms of design, with jazz and precisian clean tones being what the humbucker settings are for. over all, I'd say it seems well worth it for those looking for a cheep professional grade bass.
The noise you experienced is coming from your own poorly wired circuits, not the instrument. Perhaps, once you've managed to grow up considerably, you would be able to look into that and stop pretending to be a six year old girl, desperate for the validation of strangers?
It gladdens me to see that you haven't posted here for nine months. Don't bother returning manboy.
I haven’t played an Ibanez bass I didn’t like yet. You really can’t go wrong with an Ibanez, more bang for the buck. ????
Great video… Does this bass have a preamp in it?
Great review. How would you compare this to the Sterling music man series or Yamaha
What would you recommend in the same price range and quality wise.
A bunch of mediocre options with this bass? Come on buddy… Its tone and neck isn't for you, ok but it is far from being a bad choice.
I'm hearing a hard rock and metal workhorse here.
I have a sr305edx in rosé gold chameleon.
It's freaking mint.
Those SR's are really great in Bass form
Gosh. Lobster is getting roasted in here.
Lobster…. very fitting name.
Got a IBANEZ GSR 180
Insane Quality&Playability
If you are going to do a review, do a review and skip the childish bs

This is still my go to. Switched out the preamp with the darkglass tone. It sounds amazing. Im about to switch out the pickups with fishmans. Love the fact that its lightweight and comfortable to play.
I love this bass. I'm a guitar player and need a bass for recording and this is perfect! Loads of tones, slim neck and super easy to get around, like the pseudo bass player I am, for my guitar playing hands. Plus, as I'm only using it to record at lowish volumes, I can honestly say I'd never even noticed the single coil hum. The price point makes this model a no brainer for my needs!
I absolutely love my Ibanez SR300EDX. The chameleon/rose gold color scheme is so drop dead awesome and premium looking that it's hard to believe this is an entry level bass. Such a beautiful and slender neck design too. I'm a novice player, and the SR300 checked all my boxes and then some. Having so many on board sound sculpting options at this price point is a huge plus and not confusing at all. Talk about a bang for your buck budget beast of a bass. Picked it up for my home recording studio and its hands down the best $399 I ever spent on an instrument. There's just something very unique and special about the Ibanez SR300 bass series. Yes they're an entry level bass, but they play, look and feel like so much more than that. Really enjoyed this review video, thank you!
I'm sorry.
My man,..you're treating this review like it's supposed to be a Tobias or something in that neighborhood.
It's a three hundred and fifty dollar bass with free shipping on most plats.
You well know that the quality of music is the most important part. Everything else can be EQ'd after the fact,..including electronic buzz. Like a noise gate, etc.
Why am I still watching this video? I wanted to ask, too..before I completely damn myself for being a typical troll…in this price range as you are aware…what other basses can compete with this, that also have a plethora of colors and finishes to choose from?
Thanks!!
I heard someone on TalkBass say that the SR300's PowerSpan pickups sound like the Rickenbacker 4004, and I listened, it's true.
I have this bass and I have so bad mud low sound and its hard for me to mix it, I really dont like this bass
Clown thinks it has too many options, including the preamp. Then suggests spending $20 more for a Sire V3 that has a 3 band EQ? And the neck is not unfinished, fool. You really think either Fender (Squier) or Ibanez send out guitars or basses with unfinished necks? You clearly don't get the difference between sanded smooth and unfinished. All Ibanez necks are finished. They'd have some serious warranty claim issues if they weren't. Why does anyone listen to this fool?
I play mine through a Boss GT1B that's been tweaked which sounds better. I also keep the tap in humbucker mode. It runs through a peavey combo amp and a PA system at my church. One time I tried it though a DI box which made crispy bacon trebly sounds. Also I a Jackson JS3 Spectre bass which has an active and passive switch
I have an SR300E (pearl black fade metallic) I got hold of S/H (hence the colour-not my first choice) in 2021.
I already had an Ibanez Ergo that weighed a ton, id had a basic SR300 I didn't feel comfortable with in the past (sold on to a friend) so I was going to try my luck with one a 3rd time. I needed a backup for my Warwick Rockbass and this was similar. My main reason for buying it? Simply that for £95 & almost brand new sold as used, how could I fail?
No brainer decision and I will be honest in saying this is nicer to play than the Warwick
It's amazing that even the low end Ibanez has that clean "active" sound. The pups may not be beautiful but they're very focused. The Ibanez controls are also very unique and I don't think you were using them to the best advantage. it's interesting how so many bass players regard the Ibanez sound as "meh" yet, more than any my other basses, musicians and soundmen that I work with tend to comment how they love the tone of the Ibanez.
That cartoon had me locked in ????
Relevant info begins at 3:14. You're welcome.
I'm a metal guitarist into home recording .. looking for a bass with massive low end, good for metal (though not necessarily downtuned too much). Used these seem to be about $275
I like it
You don't explain why you call it a beginner bass because it has a thin neck. What does one have to do with the other? What do you mean by "more substantial"? An intermediate bass needs to be heavier? I don't understand. Thanks
Hablas como si fueras Victor woten eres un imbécil sin objetividad dedícate a otra cosa
What amp are you playing it through…
Michael from vsauce possess a lobster claw and tells me about a bass guitar with a cat. nice
I bought the ibanez sr300e bass and after like three months the volume just stopped working it’s like very low. You can hear it better with distortion but it’s very low i as very pissed off and so now I have no idea wtf to do???? i probably have to buy a new bass now
Any pickup recommendations for this bass? My bassist owns this model and doesn’t seem crazy about the tones for our band
I just bought a 2008 Indonesian made Ibanez SR300. Similar to the SR400 Ed Friedland reviewed on YouTube in 2008. Having previously owned a Sire V3 and a Sterling Sub. I have to say that My Ibanez SR300 is way better than those basses. Pickups, hardware, electronics, ergonomics & the woods. Feels like a premium Ibanez and is way more solid than the Sire and Sterling. Maybe these new Ibanez versions aren't that great anymore. But I would never ever trade my Ibanez for another bass in that price range.
which is the best yamaha trbx304 or ibanez sr300e?
