It’s a surprisingly nice bass for under $200 (http://amzn.to/1RCgsh8) once you set it up properly. The video includes some DI recordings to compare the different tone settings with the active EQ. • My first and only bass! I hate it! So bad imo me and that bass is like a toxic relationship.

  • Good review. I just got one.

Note: MOST guitars need a setup job done, even expensive ones, especially if they're shipped direct.

  • Been using one for home recording and it's great little bass. So versatile and easy to play. Had to do a set up but for that money I didn't care!

  • I have the mustard bass. You are absolutely correct, mine needs adjusting. When I fret high on the neck on the E string it clicks against the frets and it also has buzzing sometimes. I hate it. I need to figure out how to fix it. I like the guitar because it is beautiful but like you said, it's definitely not for live performing. But the way it clicks makes me not even want to play it sometimes. Any suggestions and tips are welcome.

  • Hello, I got this bass, the first knob for the pickups does have a central button, however the second knob for bass/treble ( both top and bottom do not seem to have the " central button" and both keep turning all the way with no limit. Do you have the same or is smthg wrong with it ? I need to find out asap, otherwise I will need to contact the seller again …. thank you.

  • good video! You were very descriptive with the tone options, and I'm glad somebody finally came out and said it in a review.

  • My son has one and it’s great! I just ordered a set of metal concentric knobs because I didn’t like the way the plastic ones felt. Still a great bass. I prefer the bass/treble knobs set flat and the balance control slightly towards the bridge pick up.

  • A lot of talking and not a lot of demo. The demo you did produce was dissapointing, the drums where way louder than the bass. Thanks for the video though, just saying you need to make a better demo. I still gave you a thumbs up!

  • Nothing is perfect 'out of the box'. A guitar is taken from one microclimate to the next, from moist to dry, indeed if bought overseas it will have been near frozen on the plane. For neck adjustments use a truss rod. Don't fear the truss rod.

  • I just picked up the 5 string version of this for 175 bucks today. With just a smidge of treble added it has a pretty biting yet beefy tone through the Peavey at the shop. I can't wait to run it through my GK

  • I appreciate your vid, but because you don't truly know what the knobs DO, it all is kinda a mess. Bass / Treble EQ is set closer to the bridge. Balancer / Volume is closer to the neck. Again, thanks.

  • im thinking of learning bass…will i need to buy an amp to start with or can i wait a while if im not going to be playing it for anyone?
i have a stereo cd system that i can put my ukulele into will it be a good idea to put this bass into or will it kill my stereo?

  • I bought one of these and it rattles and buzzes like mad. I've raised the strings and it still does it a lot. The low E is about 4mm above the 12th fret. Should I fiddle with the neck? I'm new to basses btw so I don't know what to expect.

  • I have a question. I want to pick up this bass but ive never had one before. do i need the 9v battery to play it properly or is that just an added feature im not exactly sure how that works

  • I know this bass has an active preamp
Can I still use this bass without a battery? Or it only works with a battery?

  • I just bought one of these this week. Guitar Center had certain colors on sale for $179.00. I tried the 300 a few times, but they were always missing knobs and I just couldn't get my sound out of them. Seeing the sale price, I took another look. Found one that was right out of the box in metallic blue. It sounded great. With a few turns of the tone knobs, I can get a smooth deep classic bass sound, add in a little treble, and I got a really nice slap sound. I keep the pickup balance right in the middle. I bout this as a nice backup instrument, but I may play this over my $500 Schecter. I can't put the Talman down. I really enjoy playing it. As with most Ibanez basses, it has a really fast neck. PLenty of string spacing for slap, as well as finger and pick style. I have a show Nov 27th, I will probably play the Talman.
