  • Whenever i buy a new guitar my tone always stay the same, even i buy entry level guitar still its the same.. Im getting frustrated about it, even i have good gear my tone and playing still the same. Sometimes guitar playing is not about the gear and guitar its about how good you are in playing it

  • Missed opportunity here! Check this quote from Steve Jobs out: “Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

  • whats crazy to me and really makes me see how far ive come in such a short amount of time is that i started playing a year ago (last summer) and people that have been playing for 4 or even 10 plus years tell me that i sound like ive been playing for decades. i can sweep pick and shred up and down and do all this crazy shit like playing through infant annihilator songs and i didnt think i was that good. just the other day i looked at a video of me playing a A7X song from about 7 months ago and it sounded like dogwater. i practice from about the time i get home from school up until my bedtime. its really crazy ive come this far in only 1 year. NEVER sell yourself short. even if you think you sound bad. progress will happen and it sneaks up on you somtimes. CHEERS!

  • Yeah I get all this but what about when you have been playing for 30. Years and you still suck. No matter how much I practice no matter how hard I try no matter how much I learn none of it ever sticks. What is the point of continuing to do it if you never progress.

  • I'm an American in Japan. This is highly cultural. In America you don't want to do anything in front of others unless you're great at it and have impressive gear. In Japan, even if you're never going to be good at something, you do it anyway because you enjoy it.

In Japan it's OK to be a terrible guitarist, figure skater, or even politician. You just keep on wearing the first suit you ever bought and never had tailored, pick up the mic, and sing that karaoke to a large audience.

In Japan, it's OK to suck.

  • me practising guitar doesnt have a purpose which I can identify easily. Im mid-aged so not gonna be a rock star. I just play in order to do something apart from being glued to my phone all the time

  • That’s a super cool message, especially for all the kids out there, ( girls too!) who are called wanna be ‘s and posers by shitheads who’s parents can afford guitar lessons. This encouragement is SUPER important! One thing that suck SO HARD is, for those of us who haven’t the money or anyone to ask for they money, can’t get any lessons. So we go to YouTube with the a shallow hope that we’re gonna find that guitar guru that’s going to put us in line and actually have us learning the right way in the right sequence…Alas there doesn’t seem to be that guru! If any of you are like me, I feel ya BIG TIME! If it helps, I have found the Hal Leonard Skall Finder book very helpful! Also Uncle Tim’s Building Blocks also very helpful. There’s one for year 1 beginners another for scales and finally one for chords in that series. You’re in good hands with anything Hal Leonard. Practice as if your life depended on it and make friends with guitar players that are way better than you are! Good luck!❤

  • Whatever you want to do in life. First enjoy it and forget failure, remember why you had the passion in the first place. Set realistic goals and go from there.

  • I had a music project at school about blues and improvisation and literally cried because I was confused, frustrated, overwhelmed and felt like shit because I am the worst of the 4 guitarists there. I am very embarassed and my confidence took a massive hit. Just thinking about the fact that something similar might happen again makes my cry and I dont even want to touch my guitar again. I know it probably seems silly, childish or immature and thats what makes it worse for me. Not being able to stop the tears makes me feel even more helpless.

  • I restarted to play a few months ago and started to practice new genre.
Learned a ton of new chords, sus stuff over six frets.
And a few new pentatonic patterns.
Don't give up on your guitar you WILL get better at playing.
    So many light bulb moments.
