Great review Sean. Is that capable to do small indoor gigs with acoustic guitar and small drum kit? Thx
Tried one out at local guitar center. Had that place rocking to say the lease
I can’t accept that the spark Live is unquestionably better than the Bose S1. Maybe a good competitor but this idea it’s the best is not why I look to the videos.
I’m still a bit confused on the performance of the live especially on the electric guitar and wireless mic. I’ll look at some S1 comparison videos. Thanks.
Why is this better than all the others? I’ve heard a comparison with EV8 and EV8 is clearer with vocals. It’s my understanding none of these battery amps are made for electric guitar unless you buy a preamp. They are acoustic amps.
It’s hard to find trustworthy reviews. I don’t want to be unkind I just don’t trust PG.
First off I'm a certified computer and network engineer audio engineer been building and fixing guitars and amplifiers for 30 years, I'm a musician primarily guitarist but I play all the instruments. Guitar luthier etc….
My favorite sounding modeler without a doubt IS THE LINE 6 HELIX! Made for professional use. Not stuck with your pedals in a certain line unable to switch them where you want to put them LIKE THE SPARK AMPS. That you take with you everywhere in a club. Everything's attached to one board plug it in to a good PA ready to go.
IN A LINE 6 HELIX DON'T CHARGE YOU FOR UPDATES, AMPLIFIERS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT. THE THING IS 10 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING STRONG!! They don't try to nickel and dime you constantly not giving you everything all in one trying to get your money That's what spark does.
If they just made the live amp The same thing as the edge that just came out ONLY ONE YEAR LATER. With those features and the looper. You would not need the edge. SPARK HAS TURNED INTO A PHONE COMPANY!! Constantly trying to get you to upgrade every year not giving you everything.. money grubbing money grubbin. Even with their control x you have to buy the $20 Jimi Hendrix experience Wawa pedal that should be included to use the expression pedal with the control x that doesn't work that well.
All about marketing, bad customer support, never giving you everything you want in one unit. That's why if you look at their models the mini is too small not loud enough, And then you have the spark 50 that's still not loud enough but gives you everything you need. Then you have the live LOUD ENOUGH BUT THEY LEAVE OUT THE LOOPER AND EVERYONE KNOWS SPARK CUSTOMERS WANTED A LOOPER FOR 5 YEARS NOW! THEY PURPOSELY DID THIS! Because they want you to buy the spark to 50 watt for the looper that's not loud enough or by the spark edge.
IT'S UNBELIEVABLE WHAT THEIR R&D DEVELOPMENT ALL THEIR MONEY GOES TO HOW CAN WE MAKE MORE MONEY OFF THESE PEOPLE EVERY YEAR! It really is gross in money grubbing.
Would that being said…
It absolutely cannot if you have a rock band. It's been all over YouTube it just can't handle it You have to turn it up all the way and that's never good for any amplifier to be turned up like that all the time. Not if it's solid state.
Maybe a blues band at low volumes not jamming on the drums really hard.
As an audio engineer I can tell you that a real drum kit average DB standing 10 ft away maybe further is about 112 to 116 DB sometimes louder.
This amplifier remember ONLY AT 1 M RMS WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SPEC IS 118. BUT THAT IS AT 1 M 3 FT IN A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT WITH THE MICROPHONE.
So if you're standing 10 or 15 ft away that 118 DB is going to turn into maybe 98 every 10 DB difference is twice as loud. SO A DRUM SET AND OTHER INSTRUMENTS WITH THAT AMPLIFIER TURNED ALL THE WAY UP AT ABOUT 10 OR 15 FT AWAY IS GOING TO BE HALF THE VOLUME OF EVERYONE ELSE IN THE BAND!!
Spark is clever at its marketing their customer support is horrible. They put all their money into marketing and then give you a product that is good but overpriced for what you get..
IF YOU WANT A SPEAKER THAT CAN HANDLE A LIVE BAND LIKE THAT BELIEVE IT OR NOT IT WOULD BE THE ( QSC CP8 ) probably has a RMS 10 ft away of about 118 DB. At 1 m it has a max output of 124 DB.
You would have to obviously plug in the live, the mini, the go into the QSC.. but not battery powered. I find in general there's always power everywhere unless you're in a backyard party far away from electrical source. Busking in a train station, on the beach.
So I think the battery power is really cool but definitely overrated this electricity everywhere..
Feel bad for the studio he’s only getting views because of Claire
The one question I have…. lots of talk about the guitar and bass sound… but the vocal sound… Most PAs try to make you sound like an FM DJ with way too much woofy bass that just muddies up the mix. Believe it or not, I've used just a single galaxy hotspot for small room gigs for my jazz vocals many many times, because it has such a clear, focused sound. How is the vocal sound, and how customizable is it?
I can't stop staring at that round badge pink sparkle gretsch…
The Claire Multiverse is crazy
Don't give up ya day time job guys
So, that's why we are hearing you on the right and Claire on the left @ 3:00? Are you using an unseen 2nd mic plugged into the Live? And also recording this video in stereo on an input device?
Dude you play drums like a lefty but guitar righty?!!
Spark EDGE vs Spark LIVE … I wonder how they compare?
After buying the spark and a cabinet….never again! I bought a cabinet and it had one channel! What a waste….took it right back…couldn't use it for mic and guitar without jumping through hoops….I hate PG!
Came for the Claire, and stayed for the Claire!…. and wasn't disappointed! best singing of hers on the tubes this one!
I see a dash by Claire's name , I'm so sad
Vote Claire for President!
Claire can act AND sing THIS WELL?! She's a revelation. I hope she puts out some songs ❤????
Got the spark 2… Sounds 100 X times better than the spark 40…. Awesome voice….
It’s not all that and a bag of chips…PERIOD!!! I own 3) Sparks Go, 40, and Live and they serve the purpose great for Practice, Busking, and Coffee House. I truly enjoy them for their intended purpose by Positive Grid Marketing will try selling you that it is a wall of sound and can keep up with a rock drummer. If you think your spark is more than the intended purpose? You never heard yourself through a decent amp and PA.
I knew Claire from Mikey and Wyatt. She has a beautiful voice and never knew she sang. Great video by the way.
Great demo! And omg her voice is so beautiful!
Hi Sean, I use the Spark Go in connection with a Mackie Thump Go. That is a lot of good Sounds.
This is sooooo dummmbbbbbbbbbbbb
Great singer. System seems to work very well different situations:)
One thing I wish this had was usb loopback recording. So I can stream backing tracks to it and record everything in one take.
lol claire
Omg, Claire!!! Didn't know she sang this welll
WHAT THE HELL???? CLAIRE BELL RICE???!!!!
THE GIRL WHO FRIEND ZONED A GUY AND GETS PSYCHO WHEN HE MOVED ON!!?????
Hi…very nice song you play and sing together on the acoustic …what’s this song title…? Already have the mini and looking for the live …great live overview of possibilities thanks
Literally can’t hear bass
Seriously? That no way represents a live performance with a full drum kit. Give us a break.
Anyone know the name of the song they played 5min into the video?
BEWARE. POSITIVE GRID HAS NO WAY TO TALK WITH SOMEONE. THEY ALSO CHARGE FOR THE RETURN EVEN ON AN DEFECTIVE UNIT. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Being a blind musician, the thing I can never get an answer for is how much can you do if you can’t look at the app. No one stocks them near where I live to go and try one out. I know I can’t do much with my little spark.
This is going to be awesome for busking. Especially the solo guys and gals that play sing and do everything, the one-man band type people this is going to be sick.
How about white noise? Wondering if it has the same issue as the Spark Cab. That’s the only thing keeping me from buying the Live.
Can you PLEASE do a comparison between this and the Mackie Showbox? I am torn between the two. They both look amazing. Just curious how the low end would punch on this for Electric Drums.
I am a solo looper and I use an spdx-pro with RC 505, much like Dovydos but I am mainly a drummer so I want to know how the loops and the low kicks are handled from the SPX Pro or any electric kit would go through this.
Have you played with the SPDX through this? I guess it would take channel 3-4 for stereo input, then leave 2 more channels for an instrument and a mic, unless I used a small mixer to get more stuff in there like a second instrument or another mic. I use 2 mics sometimes, one for vocal and one for percussive embelishments, shakers, etc.
On the showbox there are 6 inputs which is insane and it is about 1/3 the weight of the live but about 300 dollars more.
Does come with an impressive mixer and a ridiculous amount of onboard effects. I do have the spark and the mini and do love these amps but this would be small club, cafe and busking game changer, or the showbox.
What are your thoughts? Pros and cons? Besides weight, and more channels and price, is there anything else you can add.
Thanks for your content and this awesome review, I love that you mixed up the configurations.
I bought the original smaller one. I am blown away. I’ve played all over the globe. Fifty year player and still learning!❤
Could be the mic ing but the amp doesn’t sound so good to me and comparing to voices spoken not going through the amp and having researched and purchased lots of similar products, had jbl eon ones, s1 pros, now a pair of ev8s..
PG owner..
I still use the app on my spark 40 and it’s surprisingly useful at times though to get decent sound need to sit in the sweet spot-don’t move!
Thanks for reviewing this!
@Sean Daniel While this does MORE than the Bose S1 pro , how is does the clarity, power and tone compare? I have use the Bose and just wondering for guitar and vocal duo, which would you rate better?
Great singing
Solid intro music!! You rock
The Positive Grid Spark sounds great. Fabulous performance!!
When playing the acoustic, Which channel are you using and which channel is using Claire?
